For
the second time, the longest-running football tournament in the Philippines is set
to bring action in Luzon spanning more than two decades of developing the sport
in the country at grassroots level as the second season of the AboitizLand
Football Cup (formerly known as the Aboitiz Football Cup) Luzon Edition
officially opens this weekend starting October 13th and it will take place at the
Aboitiz Pitch inside The Outlets At Lipa, LIMA Technology Center.
Just
in time for the celebration of its 25th anniversary, AboitizLand continues to
expand the reach of the tournament by rebranding the premier league and
partnering with renouned local sports management and marketing group RSA 1
Group. But the second season of AFC Luzon will be much more different than its successful
maiden season as all games will be played in a seven-a-side festival format
inspired by the Philam Life 7s Football League which is now on its third
season. In case you didn't know, 7s football plays much like regular football
but only features two teams of seven players and a sixty-minute time limit per
game.
During
the press briefing for AFC Luzon's new season, AboitizLand commercial business
unit head Eduardo Aboitiz said that the company hopes to reinforce its
objective of supporting the country's football grassroots development and in promoting
continuing education for football practitioners in the region with the staging
of the AboitizLand Football Cup and the Aboitiz Pitch as its home venue. He
added that the tournament has been a platform to highlight the significance of sports
in value formation. Beyond honing physical skills, participants are taught the
importance of discipline, teamwork and respect which are tools to leverage in
their everyday lives outside the football pitch.
A
90-minute drive away from Manila, the Aboitiz Pitch is the largest artificial turf
in Luzon. While providing a venue for football enthusiasts, the Pitch also complements
global sports brands in The Outlets at Lipa. Following global standards, the Pitch
hosts various national and local football tournaments such as the Philippines
Football League (PFL), Youth Football League (YFL) and the Lipa Football League
(LFL). The second season of the AboitizLand Football Cup Luzon Edition will be
held every Saturdays and Sundays until mid-December. Check out the official
Facebook page of AboitizLand Football Cup for more details and updates.
