"Mabagal",
a sweet retro-centric song composed by Dan Tañedo and interpreted by Daniel
Padilla and Moira Dela Torre, was officially hailed as the best song of Himig
Handog 2019 where its grand finals took place at the ASAP Natin 'To stage last
October 13, 2019 and was watched by millions of Filipino households in and out
of the country.
"Mabagal"
was chosen from among thousands of entries coming from different parts of the country
which were jotted down to the ten official entries of the latest edition of the
Philippines' largest songwriting competition from ABS-CBN and Star Music. With
the win, Tañedo would take home Php1 million cash as grand prize. But, to
everyone's surprise including myself, prior to the announcement of the major awards,
"Mabagal" happened to win all of the competition's special awards including
MOR Philippines' Choice, MYX Choice For Best Music Video, One Music PH Choice
For Favorite Interpreter, Star Music's Choice For Best Produced Track and
Listener's Choice For Best Streamed Track each having a cash prize of
Php50,000.
Who
would have thought that the song that has taken the online world by storm after
garnering more than 20 million views on YouTube ended up being the biggest
winner of the competition? And if you are curious to know why the song happened
to be the most popular in this year's songwriting fest, take a listen and
watch.
Anyway,
