ONE
Championship, the largest mixed martial arts organization in Asia and the most
valuable sports media property in Asian history, officially announced a series
of bouts for its final event in Manila for 2019 showcasing the skills and
prowess from some of the world's greatest martial arts talents. Dubbed ONE: Masters
of Fate which will be held on November 8, 2019 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena,
the event will be headlined by a uniquely rare ONE strawweight world championship
fight between defending champion Joshua "The Passion" Pacio and
fellow Filipino fighter Rene "The Challenger" Catalan.
The
23-year old Team Lakay stalwart from Baguio City captured the strawweight title
via a unanimous decision victory over Japanese veteran Yoshitaka Naito in
September 2018 but surrendered the title to another Japanese warrior in former
Shooto champion Yosuke Sarita in his first title defense only to regain it from
him by knockout months later. On the other hand, Catalan, a Philippine Wushu
Champion, is becoming the hottest strawweight in the division who is riding on an
impressive six-bout streak. His most recent victory, where he stopped former
champion Naito in the first round, earned The Challenger a shot at the ONE
Strawweight World Championship.
Aside
from the highly-anticipated all-Filipino strawweight world title fight, two former
world champions are set to return to the ONE Championship ring on their road to
rekindling their glory, namely former two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion
Eduard "The Landslide" Folayang and former ONE Flyweight World
Champion Geje "Gravity" Eustaquio. Folayang is scheduled to take on
MGL-1 FC Lightweight Champion Amarsanaa "Spear" Tsogookhuu of
Mongolia in the evening's co-main event while Eustaquio is set to face CWFC
Bantamweight World Champion Toni "Dynamite" Tauru in a rematch of their
first encounter back in 2016 where Tauru submitted Eustaquio in the first round
via rear naked choke.
