The 82nd season of UAAP has already been captivating Filipino audiences
on television and online with exciting college basketball action with dunks,
clutch baskets, explosions and anything that you usually see in the big leagues
and would eventually generate international buzz. While the UAAP remains
consistently trending on social media, this season is shaping up to be special
when it comes to online engagement across ABS-CBN Sports' social media
platforms.
On ABS-CBN Sports' official Facebook page, UAAP-related posts from
August 26 to September 16, 2019 have generated a total of 168 million
impressions and 1.5 million interactions. Probably among those with the highest
engagement was during the UP-FEU game last September 4, 2019 where UP Fighting
Maroon Ricci Rivero returned to the league with a ridiculous alley-oop dunk
that went viral bringing in more than 7.8 million views and almost 400,000
interactions to the page. Rivero's highlight has eventually reached beyond the
Facebook timelines and news feeds of Filipino basketball fans and sports
outlets as it was shared by Bleacher Report, Yahoo Sports and BallIsLife for
the world to see.
Other highlights from the first round of the season featuring UP's Kobe
Paras, UST's Rhenz Abando and DLSU's Jamie Malonzo has also generated millions
of views and thousands of comments on Facebook with fans praising the athleticism
of the players and the intensity of the action early on in the season.
According to ABS-CBN Sports digital media head and veteran sports anchor/analyst
Mico Halili, UAAP fans enjoy watching the highlights for two different reasons.
It's either they want to relive and share exciting moments of the game with
their friends or they want to catch up on what they have missed and what
everyone in social media is talking about.
Meanwhile, the engagement on the official Twitter account of ABS-CBN
Sports shot up on never before seen levels for UAAP-related posts. Within the
period of August 28-September 24, 2019, there has been 77.4 million impressions
and 1.93 million profile visits recorded on the platform. ABS-CBN Sports' Instagram
account also experienced a surge with its followers and engagement growing at a
faster pace. Users are drawn to click and watch highlight videos on the account
with a poster-like thumbnail featuring UAAP stars who also like and share their
own content on the said platform.
The action, intensity and intrigue delivered by the eight participating
teams competing in the UAAP may be mostly credited, but what further drives the
season's engagement on social media is the enhanced quality of the content
created and developed by ABS-CBN Sports' Digital Media team. Prior to the
opening of UAAP Season 82, the digital team launched several originals that aim
to put fans in UAAP mode such as MIXTAPE featuring memorable moments from the previous
season and #KillerCrossover where UAAP stars share their passions outside of
basketball. During the season, fans and followers on ABS-CBN Sports' social
media platforms have watched and shared digital features on breakout games by Rey
Suerte of UE, Val Chauca of Adamson and Dave Ildefonso of NU as well as thrilling
games like the Ateneo-UST first round showdown.
Expect more thrilling moments and explosive college basketball action
that will fuel your excitement as the UAAP season 82 men's basketball
tournament officially enters the second round. UAAP fans can catch the games on
their television sets via S+A on free TV and S+A HD and LIGA on cable as well
as online via iWant Sports and sports.abs-cbn.com. Enjoy more of the UAAP experience
