The phenomenal box-office star Vice Ganda led his team to victory with
a powerful and dazzling performance dedicated to people having alopecia areata,
a condition that causes one's hair to fall out, as the grand winner of Magpasikat
2019 which was held last October 26, Saturday, at the Newport Performing Arts
Theater inside Resorts World Manila as part of It's Showtime's tenth year
anniversary.
Accompanied by the queens of Miss Q&A led by Juliana Parizcova
Segovia and Mitch Montecarlo Suansane and veteran actress Dawn Zulueta, the
'unkabogable' star depicted his hair loss story and journey towards
self-acceptance with a medley of songs that included Radiohead's
"Creep" followed by Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" and "Survivor"
by Destiny's Child marked by numerous wig and costume changes and augmented reality
versions of Vice's depictions in his blockbuster movies. The theme of self-love
further took centerstage when a child with alopecia areata was given a spotlight
after Vice spun in the air and belted Lady Gaga's "Hair". Several
audience members were then revealed to have alopecia themselves after taking
off their wigs, which have moved both the judges and the audience.
"You don't need to be loved by the whole world. You only need
yourself and one person that you love to accept and love you back," Vice said
after the performance. He then officially introduced "Kuya Escort"
Ion Perez as his partner which was another milestone of the October 26th
episode. Garnering an overall score of 9.7 from the judges, Team Vice wins a
vacation package and Php1 million which will be donated to a charity advocating
to improve the lives of people who have alopecia areata. On the other hand,
coming in second place and winning Php700,000 for its chosen charity was the team
of Vhong Navarro and Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla offering a heartwarming and
special-filled performance imagining the hosts of It's Showtime in old age and
an imaginative depiction of how the show's purpose of making people happy would
look like in the future.
Meanwhile, the team of Anne Curtis-Smith and Amy Perez won Php600,000 to be given to its chosen charity for its death-defying
presentation filled with acrobatic stunts that paid tribute to the show's
successes, challenges and strength as a family. The team of Karylle and Ryan
Bang which was literally the choice of Filipino netizens as well as the tandem
of Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz and Jhong Hilario received Php500,000 as consolation
prizes. Throughout the week of October 21-26, the hosts of It's Showtime have
been delivering their own brand of world-class performances as part of their
annual tradition that started in 2010 with the show's products and 120
individuals from all walks of life and these were under the watchful eye of the
special panel of judges which include veteran TV host and actor Edu Manzano as
'punong hurado', Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB)
chairperson Rachel Arenas, seasoned broadcast journalist Tina Monzon-Palma,
veteran choreographer Andy Alviz, host Tim Yap, entrepreneur Joel Cruz, celebrity
dermatologist Vicky Belo and actor Diether Ocampo among others.
Aside from Magpasikat 2019, It's Showtime was recognized by the
National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for its major contributions
to Filipino arts and culture since its inception in 2009 and championing it across
the globe bestowing upon the show the commission's "Katibayan ng
Pagpapahalaga" award. The recognition was presented by NCCA National Committee
on Dance Chairperson Shirley Halili-Cruz and NCCA Public Affairs and Information
Office Head Rene NapeƱas who were also part of the panel of judges who critiqued
this year's Magpasikat performances.
