Philippine Music (OPM) bested foreign songs on the list of Filipinos' most listened
tracks of 2019 in Spotify Philippines. According to the popular global audio
streaming service, Filipino songs have dominated the list of the year's most streamed
songs including those by fast-rising artists December Avenue and Ben&Ben.
The
top song of 2019 as reported by Spotify Philippines is "Kung Di Lang Rin
Ikaw" by December Avenue and Spotify PH's most streamed local artist of
2018 Moira Dela Torre. This is followed by I Belong To The Zoo's
"Sana", This Band's "Kahit Ayaw Mo Na", Ben&Ben's "Maybe
The Night" and "Sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee which is
part of the "Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse" official soundtrack. Filipinos
have also landed on Spotify Philippines' most streamed artists and music groups.
The most streamed artists are December Avenue, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran,
Ben&Ben and Ariana Grande while December Avenue, Ben&Ben, LANY, BTS and
BLACKPINK top the most streamed music groups.
Spotify
recently brought back its "Wrapped" feature, an annual end-of-year
campaign that announces leading artists, albums, songs playlists and podcasts
that define how people listened and discovered music. It also lets users rediscover
and share the music and podcasts that formed their personal soundtrack for the
year. This year marked the first time that a local artist - December Avenue -
topped Spotify Philippines' Wrapped Most Streamed Artist list. The alternative
indie band recently appeared on the first Asia-made Spotify Holiday Single
"A Perfect Christmas" with Jose Mari Chan, the so-called Father of
Philippine Christmas Carols, and other OPM artists.
In
July 2019, Spotify Philippines reported that local music content has reached
more than ten billion streams on the music streaming service giant and 80% of
the top 20 most discovered artists by young Filipinos using the platform are
OPM artists. Since 2015, more OPM content hit the number one spot in the
Philippines Top 50 charts. Some of the artists dominating the said chart include
IV of Spades, Ben&Ben, Juan Karlos and Moira Dela Torre. The report also
added that Filipinos likely prefer listening to official soundtracks as well,
citing how KZ Tandingan's rendition of "Too Much Lonely People In The
World" incurred an increase in streamings after the blockbuster Filipino
movie "Kita Kita" hit local cinemas.
