The largest mobile professional gaming league in Southeast Asia mounted its return in the Philippines for Season 5 of Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines (MPL-PH) following the success of its previous season which saw Sunsparks' momentous hoisting of the coveted MPL-PH trophy in a best-of-five-series grand finals showdown against ONIC PH which gave birth to the iconic Arrival play that spoiled the ladder's perfect debut in the league.

The two groups then have the honor of representing the Philippines in the first ever M1 World Championship, a global Mobile Legends Bang Bang tournament participated by 14 countries, which was held last October in Malaysia. The said competition featured a staggering prize pool of US$250,000 where the lion's share was bagged by the eventual champions, EVOS Legends of Indonesia. Meanwhile, the fifth season of MPL-PH is about to be fiercer with the elimination of previous champions Cignal Ultra and ArkAngel followed by a chaotic roster shuffle with familiar faces donning jerseys of teams that they used to compete against.

The fifth season of MPL-PH kicked off with a two-day online qualifier for aspiring hopefuls nationwide featuring a series of intensely gruelling round robin single elimination matches leading to the main qualifying round. In the end, GOSU and BSB were able to survive it all in order to fill up the last two slots for the regular season and join the fray with the top eight teams of the previous season - Sunsparks, ONIC PH, SGD Omega, Execration, Bren eSports, Geek Fam, Blacklist International (formerly EVOS PH) and STI (formerly Ownage).

The regular season of MPL-PH Season 5 is slated to begin on February 29, 2020 and will run every Saturday and Sunday until April 5th. The first week of the tournament phase will be held on February 29th and March 1st while the succeeding weeks will be from Friday to Sunday. Regular season matchups will take place inside the Illumination Studio located at 2723 Sabio St. corner Chino Roces Ave., Makati City. MLBB fans can either enjoy watching these games live and in person or via online live streaming on Facebook and YouTube. After the six-week regular season, the top eight teams will advance to the playoffs on May 2-3, 2020 at the Le Pavilion Metropolitan Park in Pasay City to determine which squad will win the lion's share of the US$100,000 prize pool and the coveted MPL-PH championship trophy.

The MPL-PH Season 5 champion will win US$25,000 while the season's Grand Final MVP will be awarded with US$1,000. The second, third and fourth placers will go home with US$13,000, US$6,000 and US$4,000, respectively while the fifth and sixth placers will be satisfied with US$2,000 each. Finally, the last two among the top eight teams after the playoffs will take home US$1,000 each. Aside from the players, MPL-PH Season 5 will also benefit gamers through a voucher code that can be redeemed up to 5,000 times.
