Seven years after the release of its sequel and after a series of several spinoffs including the Garden Warfare third-person shooter games, Electronic Arts' Plants Vs. Zombies series brings back its classic gameplay formula that it is known for since its original mobile game more than a decade ago with the launch of its third installment and mobile gamers in the Philippines are fortunate enough to get first dibs on the game and try it out for themselves on their smartphones since it has been soft launched as announced in the video game publisher's press statement released last February 25th.

Like other previous installments, an army of zombies appear on the right side of the screen and slowly marching towards the other side. The players attempt to stop their march by populating their lanes with various kinds of zombie-destroying plants. However, Plants Vs. Zombies 3 will have a bevy of improvements set to further incorporate social play, faster combat and deeper synergies for the players into the game and they come with literally the cost of several old features and options reworked to fit in the new game. According to PopCap Games' Bruce MacLean, PvZ 3 will feature multiple strategy options for players to improve their sun production making battles more tactical and exciting. This means that the role of Sunflower has been expanded and is slated to be a key factor in one's strategy although it is not necessarily required in the game to keep one's plant army pumping within the lawns. The same can be said towards Lawnmowers which were the last line of defense in any case the zombies are near the opposing side.

Furthermore, MacLean stated that the game is now in portrait mode as opposed to the landscape orientation in previous installments which is done to make it more mobile-friendly while the art style shifted from 2D to 3D in order to make the game's characters more detailed enough for players to appreciate their wackiness. Plants Vs. Zombies 3 is free-to-play with optional microtransactions and it can be played on Samsung Galaxy S6 tier devices running on Android 4.4 KitKat OS or later and at least an iPhone 6 or higher running on Apple's iOS 13.1 or later. Though there is no word on the release details of its final version, the soft launch in the Philippines will give the development team time to acquire more feedback that would lead them to implement changes for the final version.
