Despite only being formed in 2019, ONIC PH has already proven its mettle when it became a runner-up in the fourth season of the Mobile Legends Professional League - Philippines which served as the local qualifier for the largest and most prestigious mobile eSports competition in Southeast Asia - the M1 MLBB World Championship. In the Mytel Myanmar COVID-19 Charity Tournament, ONIC PH joined seven other Southeast Asian eSports teams from Myanmar, Malaysia and Singapore to battle it out online in double elimination brackets.
From the group stages, only six teams qualified for the playoffs led by ONIC PH and the Burmese Ghosts which have secured their slot in the semifinals with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Unopposed in the semis, the Yellow and Black and the Ghouls faced off once more in the grand finals with ONIC securing the victory and the championship, 3-2. Meanwhile, Myanmar's Yangon Galacticos failed to quell the advance of ONIC PH in the semifinals (with the score of 0-2) and forced to settle in third place. A day after the charity tilt in Myanmar, ONIC PH nabbed first place at the Amplfy WFH Charity Cup when it trounced longtime rival Bren eSports with an overwhelming 3-1 score. According to Amplfy WFH Charity Cup organizer and the Philippines' premiere eSports talent management firm Tier One Entertainment, the proceeds raised in the tournament will be donated to the United Nations COVID-19 Response Fund.
For ONIC PH, participating in an eSports tournament for charity and the use of digital payments such as Paymaya and Gcash are some of the best ways to support the country's ongoing COVID-19 relief and prevention efforts while staying at home."We hope we are inspiring others to help out too. No matter how big or small our actions may seem, any help we give can make a difference. Everyone has a part," said team captain Jonmar Villaluna.
