"People all over the world are doing the right thing by staying home to help contain the spread of COVID-19. We are deeply grateful to everyone practicing social distancing and taking our responsibility as a home entertainment platform seriously, so we are asking our community to continue supporting the safe choice and the need to Play At Home. As a 'thank you' to all who are doing their part to lessen the impact of this pandemic, Sony Interactive Entertainment is pleased to announced the Play At Home initiative," said SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan. SIE's Play At Home initiative comprises of two components, namely: providing free games to help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home and establishing a fund to help smaller independent game developers with financial difficulties which hinder their build of great experiences for all gamers.
PlayStation 4 gamers around the world can now get Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection - an action-packed one-disc compilation of the first three Uncharted games (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception) meticously remastered for PS4 - and Journey - a mysteriously beautiful and celebrated adventure that bears a life-affirming message - for free via digital download until May 5, 2020, 8 pm PDT. Your PlayStation Store or PSNow account is not required to redeem these two free games for all you need to do is to ensure your internet connection is fast and stable, sign up for a PlayStation account and you're on your way. Once you have redeemed both Uncharted and Journey, they are yours to keep forever. Meanwhile, PS4 gamers in Germany and China will have to satisfy downloading Knack 2 for free along with Journey instead of Uncharted until May 6th considering that it will be difficult for them to understand English while playing.
On the other hand, Sony Interactive Entertainment has literally earmarked and raised US$10 million in order to support its partner independent developers. They are considered to be vital to the heart and soul of the gaming community and through its support fund, SIE understands the hardships and financial struggles that the smaller game studios are facing due to the continuing threat of the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. More information about the fund, including participation criteria, will be detailed in the coming weeks. In the toughest times where physical and social distancing are encouraged, people turn to gaming for moments of respite and enjoyment. With this is mind, SIE is privileged to offer this much-needed entertainment and hopefully will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.
