Launched in 1996, the Asian Television Awards (ATA) will mark its 25th year of honoring and recognizing the best of Asian television and entertainment. Through the years since its inception, the ATA has become the most widely watched awards program in the region reaching 500 million homes across 22 countries and attracts several major partnerships along the way. The ATA has more than 56 categories grouped into four namely Digital, Performance, Technical and Creativity and annually accepted more than a thousand entries of diverse genres to compete in these categories.
At the 24th Asian Television Awards in Manila, the Philippines scored victories in several categories. For instance, Best Leading Male Performancr went to Martin Del Rosario for his gender-bending role as Barbs in Cignal Entertainment's Born Beautiful while former ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) anchor and now PLDT Corporate Communications Head Catherine Yap-Yang received the Best News Presenter/Anchor award for Market Edge With Cathy Yang. Past winners from the Philippines include seasoned and esteemed actors including Michael V., Gina Pareño, Eula Valdes, Ice Seguerra and Roderick Paulate among others. It is without question that the Filipino talent is a force to be reckoned with in the pan-Asian awards derby.
FDCP chairperson and CEO Liza Diño expressed her excitement for the new partnership. She stated, "With our partnership with ATA, we hope to bring further recognition to the best of Philippine television and likewise to the broad and growing audio-visual industry in the Philippines. We are also excited to promote ATA and bring it to a wider Philippine audience. On the other hand, Asian Television Awards chairman Lee Keen Whye is looking forward to its meaningful partnership with FDCP. "The Philippine entertainment industry is one of the most vibrant in Asia. We believe Filipino talents and content are best in class and deserve to be ranked against the best across Asia Pacific," Whye shared.
