GMA Network's internationally acclaimed primetime drama series "Descendants Of The Sun: The Philippine Adaptation" is set to return to air on October 26 with fresh new episodes that would literally wrap up the series amidst the continuing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. For Filipino viewers who have missed out on some of the series' best kilig and action-packed moments, the drama series based on the hit Korean romance action drama of the same name will become available on Netflix Philippines starting November 13.
As it celebrates its 70th anniversary, the Philippines' largest broadcasting network continues to strengthen its digital presence while staying true to its commitment of creating world-class and highly-engaging content for Filipino viewers in and out of the country. Its biggest drama series, "Descendants Of The Sun: The Philippine Adaptation", happens to be the network's first series to be streamed on the popular global streaming service. Fans of the show can relive the story of Big Boss and Maxine as it debuts on Netflix with the first 30 episodes on November 13 followed by the next eight episodes uploaded weekly from November 20 until January 2021.
Headlined by two of the biggest names in Philippine television Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado, the series revolves around the fickle love story of Armed Forces Of The Philippines (AFP) Special Forces Captain Lucas "Big Boss" Manalo and cardiothoratic surgeon Dr. Maxine "Beauty" Dela Cruz. With both of them having dangerous and demanding jobs, timing was never on their side. But the more they try to distance themselves from one another, the more that fate found a way to bring Lucas and Maxine together - surviving and making it through one disaster after another. Reporting with them for duty are Rocco Nacino as Technical Sargeant Diego Ramos and Jasmine Curtis-Smith as Captain Moira Defensor.
Also in the series as hard-working doctors and nurses are Renz Fernandez, Chariz Solomon, Andre Paras, Nicole Donesa, Reese Tuazon, Jensel Angeles and Bobby Andrews. Meanwhile, the brave military team accompanying Big Boss and Diego is composed of Paul Salas, Jon Lucas, Lucho Ayala and Prince Clemente. Completing the cast are Neil Ryan Sese, Pancho Magno, Antonio Aquitania, Ricardo Cepeda, Ian Ignacio, Rich Asuncion, Carlo Gonzalez, Hailey Mendes, Marina Benipayo and Roi Vinzon. At the helm of the series is esteemed director Dominic Zapata.
"Descendants Of The Sun: The Philippine Adaptation" premiered on February 10, but production was temporarily suspended due to the imposed restrictions brought about by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last August, the series brought honor to the country as the first local TV program to receive the Most Popular Foreign Drama Of The Year in the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards while Dingdong Dantes became the fourth Filipino actor to receive the Asian Star Prize in the same annual global festival. Lock-in tapings with strict health and safety measures were held last September, enabling the series to resume airing on October 26 starting with a two-week recap on GMA's Telebabad primetime block.
