Lazada, one of the leading online shopping platforms in Southeast Asia, is kicking off the festivities of its biggest one-day annual sale event with the introduction of global Korean superstar Lee Min Ho as the face of the Lazada 11.11 Shopping Festival and its newest brand ambassador. For this year, Lazada will inject more "happiness" in the partnership with arguably South Korea's "premiere leading man" as Lee was chosen to "capture the imagination" of shoppers and inspire happiness across Southeast Asia, especially in times of uncertainty as the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Lee Min Ho's exuberant, optimistic and encouraging personality resonates with Lazada's shoppers...We are thrilled that Lee is Lazada's Heartthrob and the strong alignment with our brand," said Lazada's Group Chief Marketing Officer Mary Zhou in a statement. "Reminiscent of Lazada's spirit and tagline "Go Where Your Heart Beats" and signature finger-heart gesture, we continuously inspire and encourage customers to actively pursue their desired passions which Lee has demonstrated in his career and various social involvement in giving back to the community." On the other hand, Lee Min Ho said, "It is wonderful to see individuals continue to pursue their passions, pick up new skills, and experience the joy of going where their hearts beat through Lazada. I'm pleased to be part of this story and play a role in uplifting spirits and sharing more happiness with my fans and consumers in Southeast Asia."
The 33-year old Hallyu actor is known for his exemplary and outstanding lead roles in "Boys Over Flowers", "Legend Of The Blue Sea", "The Heirs", and one of the most recently hit Korean drama series "The King: Eternal Monarch" on Netflix. His return to the Korean entertainment scene following his mandatory military stint and strong social media presence coincides with the initial public offer of Big Hit Entertainment, the talent agency of K-pop group BTS, in the Korean stock market which experts said to be a success due to the global appreciation of the Korean culture. A study by South Korea's Ministry Of Sports, Culture and Tourism stated that K-pop tracks, cosmetics sales, food and drinks as well as Korean dramas and soap operas generate billions for the country's economy.
As part of the partnership, Lee Min Ho will be featured in an online and television commercial that will showcase his online shopping routine. Lee has also been collaborated with local Southeast Asian celebrities for the promotion of the event including Philippine box-office queen Kathryn Bernardo. Slated to be one of the most anticipated online shopping events of the year, Lazada's 11.11 Shopping Festival will happen on November 11, 2020 in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
