Twenty of the most outstanding musical achievements of renouned Filipino artists, cultural workers, musical pieces and institutions that have redefined the local culture and arts scene for the past two decades will be given recognition in the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) SUDI Awards, a National Music Artist award that aims to recognize outstanding contributions of Filipino musical works, creators, institutions, and researchers across genres and modes of productions with the highest standard and artistic excellence.
Spearheading the said awards is NCCA's Plan/Policy Formulation and Programming Division (P/PFPD) - Arts Section headed by Ferdinand Isleta with the nod of top NCCA officials headed by Chairman Arsenio "Nick" Lizaso, Executive Director Al Ryan S. Alejandre, Deputy Executive Director Marichu G. Tellano and Supervising Officer for Administration Bernan Joseph G. Corpuz. The official award name SUDI is an Ilokano adjective which means renouned, celebrated or famous. The name of the said awards was proposed by NCCA National Committee for Music's incumbent head Dr. Felipe M. De Leon Jr.
The award was eventually initiated by a technical working group comprising of Noel Ferrer as chairman, Dr. Felipe M. De Leon Jr., National Artist For Music Ryan Cayabyab, Organisasyon Ng Pilipino Mangaawit (OPM) and PhilPop Music Foundation executive director Dinah Remolacio, Elements Music Camp founder Twinky Lagdameo, Homonym founder and managing director Mike Constantino and world-renouned Filipino music artist Bayang Barrios. The awardees of the NCCA SUDI Awards were carefully deliberated and selected by a board of jurors composed of Ryan Cayabyab as Chairman, Dr. Felipe M. De Leon Jr., Bobby Barreiro, Andre Allan Alvarez, Maria Rachelle Gerodias, Francis Reyes, Lutgardo Labad, Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista, Dr. Elena Mirano, Melchor Villena and Dr. Jose Buenconsejo. Here is the list of awardees to be honored and recognized in the maiden edition of the NCCA SUDI Awards.

In the succeeding years, the NCAA SUDI Awards will hail and recognize more excellent and outstanding musical contributions. Filipino music and culture lovers should expect melodic and symphonic activities to be staged and held throughout the awarding proper while the inaugural NCCA SUDI Awards will be streamed live over NCCA's social media accounts with more details yet to be disclosed.
