SuperGiant Games' roguelike action roleplaying game Hades is the big winner in the 17th British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Gaming Awards held last March 25, 2020 when it was hailed as the Best Game of the Year. The critically-acclaimed dungeon-crawler made by the creators of Bastion, Transistor and Pyre for the PC and the Nintendo Switch took home five awards from the prestigious award-giving body including Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative and Performer in a Supporting Role for Logan Cunningham.
Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us Part II for the Sony PlayStation 4 bagged three awards out of a record-breaking 13 nominations. These include the audience-voted EE Game Of The Year, Animation, and Performer for a Leading Role for Laura Bailey as Abby. Another fun PlayStation game Sackboy: A Big Adventure took home the British Game and Family Game awards while Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch won in the Game Beyond Entertainment and Multiplayer categories. UK-based video game developer Media Molecule's studio director Siobhan Reddy was bestowed upon him the Academy's highest honor - the Fellowship.
This is the second time that the BAFTA Gaming Awards was held and done virtually due to the continuing onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's edition was streamed live on BAFTA's social media platforms with Elli Osili-Wood serving as the event's host. The 17th BAFTA Gaming Awards is supported by the Academy's official gaming partners Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, PlayStation (Sony Interactive Entertainment), SEGA Europe Ltd., Tencent Games and UbiSoft with EE sponsoring the only award that is voted for by the public.
