The MVP (Manuel V. Pangilinan) Group Of Companies led by Cignal TV, TV5, PLDT and Smart Communications is going all out in bringing in and delivering a highly comprehensive world-class coverage of the 2020/21 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. Filipinos and sports enthusiasts in the country and abroad can watch and cheer for the athletes as they compete across various disciplines in the highly-anticipated multi-sport event on July 23-August 28, 2021 through television, over-the-top (OTT), mobile and internet platforms.

Sports fans will have comprehensive access to the Olympic Games - from the Opening Ceremonies all the way to when the games conclude - on free TV via TV5 and One Sports. Meanwhile, One Sports+ on Cignal is set to dedicate a significant amount of airtime to broadcast the events while Cignal will launch two exclusive channels dedicated to broadcasting the games 24/7. In addition to free live channels TV5, One Sports and One Sports+, Cignal Play will be offering exclusive channels broadcasting live updates to its subscribers along with exclusive content not available on the TV broadcast. Cignal's One News leads the group's round-the-clock news coverage featuring results, updates and highlights.

Smart Communications will offer a complete coverage of the Tokyo Olympics on gigafest.smart on top of its deep library of international music and sports content. The website will also feature live streaming of the games to complement the television broadcast of its customers along with other Olympic-related content exclusively available via the streaming website. PLDT, on the other hand, is rounding off the comprehensive multi-platform coverage of the Olympics by offering ten exclusively dedicated channels to select PLDT Triple Play subscribers.

“The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 symbolize the highest level of athletic excellence and stands as a beacon of hope for Filipino athletes and sports spectators, both here and abroad,” said Cignal and TV5 President and Chief Executive Officer Robert P. Galang. “In our commitment to providing the best sports content to our viewers, we will ensure extensive coverage and daily access to the Games across our free-to-air, pay TV, and OTT platforms, and through our partnership with Smart and PLDT,” he added. Meanwhile, PLDT and Smart Communications president and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio expressed his excitement for the Olympics and the opportunity for Filipinos to view it live across multiple options. “It is our great pride to provide our subscribers access to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 for them to enjoy this global sporting spectacle. We are also honored to be able to show support to Filipino athletes as they embark on their journey to make our country proud and showcase their skills through sports and athletics,'' Panlilio said.

The Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 was postponed last year due to safety issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The games would eventually push through after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee have formally agreed on various measures to ensure that the Olympics is safe for both participants and spectators alike. Among the Filipino athletes slated to compete in the games include gymnast Carlos Yulo, pole vaulter EJ Obiena, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, skater Margielyn Didal, and boxer Eumir Marcial.
