Aside from the gripping drama and characters in ABS-CBN's upcoming drama series "The Broken Marriage Vow", viewers should also look forward to a wide array and range of all-Filipino wardrobe and costumes as among the series' biggest stars. The series' director and head costume designer Concepcion "Connie" Macatuno said that its lead stars Jodi Sta. Maria, Zanjoe Marudo, Sue Ramirez and Zaijian Jaranilla as well as their co-stars will wear "entirely local" pieces made by Filipino fashion designers and artisans - a move that makes it the first Filipino teleserye to do so.
In a video released by Dreamscape Entertainment last August 6 (Friday), Direk Connie shared, “Matagal ko nang inisip na makagawa ng isang palabas kung saan gumagamit ng local designs from local designers. Una kong naisip agad, pagsama-samahin silang lahat. Most of the local designers will be there in showcasing their original work. It’s the thing that excited all of us." The said video also parades the locally made apparel, footwear, accessories, indigenous fabrics, hand-embroidered pieces and traditional Filipino costumes that will be worn by the stars. According to Direk Connie, she personally picks and matches the elements of the stars' outfits and that she had fun building the overall look of Jodi's character Dra. Jill Ilustre.
Direk Connie's vision for "The Broken Marriage Vow" aesthetic is "urban Pinoy" which 'mixes global brands and Filipino luxury brands together' to promote Filipino creativity, culture and craftsmanship to the world. “We want to showcase our clothes, our roots, our culture in a different way. We get to wear the barong, the pinya on a daily basis. We get to wear the weaves of different places here in the Philippines, and showcase original works of different designers that have global appeal,” she said. Meanwhile, costume designer Jilla Sara also said that by featuring Filipino-made creations in the series, their team hopes to show global audiences what Filipinos can do.
"The Broken Marriage Vow" is ABS-CBN's upcoming Philippine adaptation of the hit BBC series Doctor Foster. It tells the story of Jill, a dedicated wife and mother who suspects that her husband David (Zanjoe) is having an affair, turning her picture-perfect life upside down. The series is produced by Dreamscape Entertainment and is slated to air on broadcast and digital platforms where ABS-CBN shows are available.
