The lead stars of the hit Netflix-exclusive Korean drama series Crash Landing On You, Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin, have graced Smart Hallyu Hangouts, a series of online shows provided by Smart Communications, throughout the month of July and virtually engaged in various conversations and engagements with their Filipino fans who have taken part in the said series. Both Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin have recounted stories, details and behind-the-scenes moments from CLOY and the Smart commercials featuring the two as well as interesting bits of trivia about them.
During the first Smart Hallyu Hangouts event, Son Ye Jin recalled, “There were very long hours during the Smart shoot and we were on location. It took all morning and all night to shoot. And we were also remotely shooting with the Philippine team. It was kind of a strange situation but also very fascinating to be virtually communicating with the team in the Philippines. But I was very honored to have shot this commercial for Smart and I’m very happy to be working with the brand right now.” Some of the interesting facts fans learned about Son Ye-Jin include her favorite color (light Indian pink), hobbies (exercising and walking her dog), favorite aspect of herself (when she can make someone laugh) and beauty secret (indulging for hair treatments). She has also been practicing Pilates for ten years, never watches herself on TV as she feels embarrassed and awkward, and attributes her ability to play diverse roles and genres to a deep sense of empathy for whatever character she plays.

“I think touring the Philippines would be a great experience,” said Hyun Bin as he mused about the opportunity to travel once again, especially to visit his Filipino fans, during the second leg of the Smart Hallyu Hangouts. Regarding the Smart commercial of which he liked, Hyun Bin said, “The Smart commercial was full of visual effects. Everything that surrounded me was computer graphics, so I had to act in an empty space. It was exciting to imagine what the result would be like, but at the same time, not knowing if I’m doing all right or even what I was doing made me feel a little awkward. But it was exciting as well." He wanted to be a detective when he was young, considers a possible career as either a golfer or a businessman, and shares whether he searches his name on the Internet, what he feels about himself, his real-life piano-playing skills, and his previous movies and series among others. Furthermore, he thanked his Filipino fans for their unwavering support and vowed to visit them once the pandemic is over. “I’m always grateful to my fans,” he said. “All I can do for them to repay their love is to continue acting, hoping it would make their life a little better. Although it was for a short time, I got to talk with my fans and talk about my works for a short while. It was nice to communicate with my fans, even though I could only see them through a screen.”
The two legs of Smart Hallyu Hangouts were hosted by Philippines-based host Sam Oh and Korean-based co-host Park Kyung Lim. Lucky subscribers selected to participate in the event via online video conferencing were given a chance to have a chat session with their favorite Korean stars and win special prizes from them as well as Smart Communications. The series concluded with a digital photo op session with the first leg to include a heartwarming tribute video for Son Ye Jin created by her Filipino fans. The Smart Hallyu Hangouts is one of the telco brand's ways of bringing amazing experiences to its valued subscribers. Despite the physical limitations brought about by the pandemic, Smart champions its dedication and cutting-edge technology to bring its Korean endorsers closer to their Filipino fans.
