AirAsia PH Culminates National Blood Month With Blood Letting Activity In Partnership With PH Red Cross

AirAsia Philippines, as a culmination to the celebration of the National Heart Month, partnered with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in a bloodletting activity at the airline’s RedPoint headquarters in Pasay City. The activity, with the theme “alwaysREDy mag-alay ng dugo sa buwan ng mga puso”, is under AirAsia Philippines’ umbrella sustainability program alwaysREDy. A total of 36 AirAsia Allstars from different departments of the organization – including the Flight and Cabin Crew Department and the 1st Airlift Reserve Wing – signed up and donated the much-needed medical resource. A total of 16 bags or 7,200cc of blood was collected and sent to the Red Cross blood bank.

AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson Steve Dailisan said, “In crises such as the pandemic, we at AirAsia champion the value of being alwaysREDy to help in areas where aid is critically needed. This National Health Month, we had the privilege of partnering with PRC to enable our Allstars to augment the blood supply of our country. We are optimistic that this blood donation program will benefit our fellow Filipinos who are currently undergoing surgeries and various treatments.” Since 2020, the Department of Health (DOH) and PRC have been reporting a shortage in blood reserves. Blood donations in the second quarter of 2021 fell 77% due to the ongoing global pandemic with mobility and vaccination as the main reason for hesitancy according to the Red Cross – National Blood Services.

As mobility and capacity restrictions continue to get relaxed and with the imposition of Alert Level 1 in Metro Manila and 38 other local government units, PRC is being more aggressive in partnering with different organizations in order to ensure the sufficiency of the blood supply here in the country. “We thank AirAsia and all the Filipino Allstars that voluntarily donated their blood. Please know that your donation will be of huge help for frontliners who are working tirelessly to save as many lives as possible during this pandemic,” shares PRC National Blood Center Manager Dr. Sheryll Tonelete.

Landco Pacific Corporation, known for pioneering landscapes for more than 30 years and for its strong thrust on sustainability, allotted a portion of the BeachTowns CaSoBe (Calatagan South Beach) in Batangas to provide a safe, convenient and round the clock access road for fisherfolks to easily reach the Calatagan seas from the public road and vice versa. The allocation was made possible via a signing ceremony held last December 10, 2021.

The event was attended by Landco Pacific Corporation Assistant Vice President for Business Development Maurel Luzano, Palacio Village Corporation landowners William Falgui and Butch Noche, Wilfredo Aguilar representing the fisher folks of Barangay Sta. Ana in the town of Calatagan, Calatagan mayor Hon. Peter Oliver Palacio and Sta. Ana barangay captain Hon. Renato Roxas. “Landco works closely with the community, the local government of Calatagan, Batangas and our landowners for an inclusive socio-economic development of different sectors in the vicinity of our BeachTowns developments, particularly the fisherfolks. Ensuring their source of livelihood and stimulating the growth of their micro enterprise are our prime concerns. Our team undertakes measures for community involvement because it’s the right thing to do and sustainability is deeply rooted in Landco’s DNA,” said Landco President and CEO Erickson Y. Manzano.

Complementing this support for fisherfolks, Landco provides jobs to the local community in which 69 out of the 104 or 66% of Millennial Resorts staff are residents of Calatagan. The access road for fisherfolks along with various community and environmental initiatives is part of Landco’s long-term sustainability program which is aligned with Metro Pacific Investment Corporation’s commitment to help achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable; and strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
