GMA Network Extends Dominance To Facebook, TikTok
(Image Source: Manila Bulletin/GMA Network) |
GMA Network further strengthens its delivery of world-class entertainment beyond the traditional media as it dominates Facebook and TikTok – two of the country’s favorite social media platforms. On Facebook, GMA Network is the top Philippine media organization with 22,126,213 likes as of June 2022. Facebook Help Center defines likes as a user “showing support for the Page and that they want to see content from it. The Page will show up as being liked in the About section of that person’s profile.” On the other hand, “when someone follows a Page, it means they may receive updates about the Page in their News Feed.”
According to Sprout Social, for the first half of 2022, GMA Network’s Facebook page similarly leads in terms of Public Engagements by 72 percent against its closest media competitor. Public Engagements refer to the number of times users engaged with a page’s posts through clicks, reactions, comments, and shares. It gives a significant measure of how compelling the content of the page is. Some of GMA Network’s content with high engagements include Kapuso ArtisTambayan, Kapuso Watchfest, Kapuso Exclusives, Program Online Exclusives from GMA programs, Kapuso Stream, and Kapuso Covers. Facebook has 86.6 million active users in the country in April 2022 — reaching the 6th spot among countries with the most Facebook users worldwide, according to Meta’s advertising resources.
GMA Network likewise rules on TikTok with 1.1 million followers. Some of its top posts are from the daily showbiz news updates ‘Kapuso Showbiz News’ and the #GMAPaNoticeChallenge, an acting challenge where fans can make their own versions of scenes from GMA shows with the best ones getting featured on the GMA Network account. Meanwhile, the Philippines ranks 7th among countries with the most TikTok users globally. Figures from ByteDance’s advertising resources indicate that the country has 40.4 million active TikTok users aged 18 and above, as of April. The extensive influence of the Kapuso Network on both Facebook and TikTok suggests that a large number of audiences choose to be entertained on social media by GMA’s top-notch content that Kapuso fans continue to engage with.

Globe Encourages Customers To Use Digital Channels Against Cyberviolence
(Image Source: Manila Standard/Globe Telecom) |
In celebration of World Social Media Day, Globe Telecom encouraged its customers to unleash the full power of online channels to do good and fight alarming negative digital interactions. The global commemoration recognizes the unifying power of social media to connect people. Social media is a valuable communication tool that over 92 million Filipinos embrace. However, its popularity has also resulted in high incidence of cyberviolence such as cyberbullying and online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC). Cyberviolence affects almost half of Filipino children aged 13-17 according to UNICEF. Another survey by Stairway Foundation showed that 60-80% of Filipino youth between the age of 12 and 16 have been bullied on social media.
“As we observe World Social Media Day, we want to encourage the public to use various social media platforms to bring to fore discussions on cyberviolence. Together, let us raise awareness about these social issues to help minimize such incidents and protect our children,” said Globe Telecom Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer Yoly Crisanto. Globe has been investing to make the digital space safe for Filipinos, especially children and the youth. Part of its effort is to educate the public on responsible online behavior through the #MakeITsafePH campaign. Since young adults are very vulnerable to cyberviolence and online risks, Globe believes that it is critical to instill online safety discipline at an early age.
Online safety discipline and digital discernment are some of the lessons Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) teaches. DTP is not only geared towards the youth. It also enables parents and caregivers to guide children through safe online activities. Since its launch, DTP has already reached 1.9 million students from over 4,100 schools nationwide. “Cyberbullying and OSAEC are among the issues that we are trying to address. Parents need to understand that these are serious concerns and have long-term effects on the victim’s mental health. Children should be guided by their parents to promote general online safety,” Crisanto added.
