RCA Records Greater China, a division of Sony Music Entertainment (SME), has officially announced the signing of 19-year-old singer-songwriter, Jasmine Yen, who has released her debut single and music video “idk”. She made her debut performance at the Majulah Music Night in Singapore last July 30, 2023, performing the said single alongside unreleased material from her upcoming album.
Raised in Hong Kong, the daughter of actor, martial artist and politician Donnie Yen and Cecilia Wang started to nurture her talent at a young age, starting to compose when she was only seven years old. To love others, you must first learn to love yourself.
On signing with RCA for her debut project, Jasmine shares, “I feel blessed to find my musical home in RCA Records Greater China. This is an amazing opportunity for me to pursue my dreams as an artist and singer.” Jasmine’s debut album will be released on September 1, 2023. ABS-CBN Global, a leading Filipino media and entertainment company committed to bringing the best of Filipino content and talent worldwide, played hosts recently to visiting UTA representatives at the ABS-CBN compound in Metro Manila. The company entered into a consultancy partnership with UTA last February to take ABS-CBN's internationalization efforts to the next level. United Talent Agency (UTA) is a global talent agency that represents many of the world's most iconic, barrier-breaking artists, creators and changemakers — from actors, athletes and musicians to writers, to gamers and digital influencers. Very recently, its clients received more than 200 EMMY nominations for this year.
UTA represented by Head of Asia Business Development Max Michael and music agent Janet Kim visited ABS-CBN offices in Manila this month to meet with the media company's top executives, attend contract signings with artists, do a studio tour, meet with the business unit heads of music, films, talent and content, and have face-to-face meetings with Filipina actress-singer-host-model Maymay and P-Pop groups BINI and BGYO. While ABS-CBN Global's content, talent, film, music and live events are already present in Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, and North and Latin America, the company wants to reach out to a mainstream audience that has become much more open to diverse and ethnic entertainment offerings. One example for ABS-CBN Global is its recently held 1MX music festival in London which headlined top Filipino music acts with other Asian artists and emerging non-Asian artists. The event drew thousands of attendees. Buoyed by the reception in London, ABS-CBN Global is bringing 1MX to Toronto in September and Sydney in October.
"ABS-CBN Global wants to reach larger audiences across the full breadth of practice areas in the entertainment industry. With UTA's expertise and network, we hope to explore opportunities for our business verticals and have our offerings on the forefront of the media and entertainment industry where they can generate full impact on reach and engagement. We are excited to work with UTA to make this happen," said ABS-CBN Global Chief Operating Officer Aldrin M. Cerrado.

To encourage Filipino audiences to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of world cinema, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) brings internationally acclaimed films to its online streaming platform JuanFlix: The FDCP Channel. JuanFlix’s World Cinema lineup features the celebrated works of Krzysztof Kieślowski, Jacques Demy, Agnès Varda, and François Truffaut whose provocative and experimental films influenced new cinematic movements and made a lasting legacy on European cinema and beyond.
Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours trilogy encompasses the human experience by exploring themes of love, loss, and liberation. The trilogy won top awards at prestigious international film festivals in Cannes, Venice, and Berlin while “Three Colours: Red” received three Oscar nominations in 1994, including the Best Director award for Kieślowski. French filmmaker Jacques Demy’s musical films “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” and “The Young Girls of Rochefort” portray his female characters’ quest for love and fortune, with the former receiving the Palme d’Or award at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival. Moreover, “Donkey Skin” is a whimsical adaptation of a French fairy tale, depicting a young princess’ escape from her father’s kingdom to fend off an unwanted marriage proposal.
“Cléo from 5 to 7” by French filmmaker Agnès Varda uses a woman’s point-of-view in navigating the streets of Paris and coming to terms with one’s mortality, mixing aspects of documentary and fiction and featuring cameos from French New Wave icons Anna Karina and Jean-Luc Godard. Lastly, François Truffaut’s directorial debut film “The 400 Blows” captures Truffaut’s own childhood by depicting an adolescent boy’s experience with petty crime and authority figures. Demy, Varda, and Truffaut are pioneers of the New Wave, a cinematic movement that emerged in France during the late 1950s. New Wave filmmakers favored personal expression and experimental storytelling over the commercial demands of mainstream filmmaking which inspired other filmmakers from around the world.
These films are now available for streaming on JuanFlix via subscription, which costs Php99.00/month and Php499.00/year. To register, visit www.juanflix.com.ph.
