To welcome the world’s biggest basketball tournament, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 global partner Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has teamed up with its technology partners Huawei and Ericsson to further expand and permanently optimize its 4G LTE and 5G mobile network coverage across all FIBA Basketball World Cup venues including the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, and the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

Smart subscribers trooping to the venues can expect world-class mobile experience not just during the much-anticipated games on August 25-September 10, 2023 but also in all the biggest concerts and epic events after the tournament. With Smart’s fastest speeds and widest coverage, subscribers can share their favorite gameplays on social media in real-time, send videos of iconic moments to their loved ones and friends in seconds, and upload all their memorable photos online in an instant. Smart also transformed the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Ball into a giant basketball with a hoop which is one of the most awe-inspiring, larger-than-life basketball tributes the country has ever seen.

Basketball fans are in for a huge treat when they pass by the mesmerizing MOA Ball spectacle, signaling not only the country’s participation as one of the hosts of this historic event but also as a nation with an unmatched love for the game. Measuring 1.5 meters in diameter inside a ring with 111 meters in circumference, the MOA Ball was a collaboration of Smart with creative agency Gigil as well as media agency Metropolis and production partner UpRising. A total of 248 workers including site workers, engineers, safety officers, and designers, among others, put up the massive installation amid days of heavy downpours in the last three weeks. The MOA Ball is the latest of Smart’s epic installations around Metro Manila to drum up the country’s historic hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Earlier, Smart mounted a massive basketball ring at EDSA-Pioneer Street and launched a 3D Digital Billboard in Bonifacio High Street Crosswalk. Fans were also treated to exciting appearances of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 mascot “JIP” in all the major activities. Smart is all-out in bringing the best basketball experiences to subscribers and fans powered by the Philippines’ fastest and best mobile network as cited by global network analytics firm Ookla for three consecutive reporting periods - in Q1-Q2 2022, Q3-Q4 2022, and Q1-Q2 2023.
