KRAFTON has announced the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS 2024 Roadmap which aims to take live service gaming to new heights and provide players with new gaming experiences throughout the year. In 2024, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will see significant improvements to provide a more structured service and enrich the game's iconic JUMP/LOOT/SURVIVE gameplay.
Destructible Environments
Destructible map environments, which aim to add a new, dynamic layer of strategy and tactics to the game, are one of the elements to be added this year. By strategically destroying parts of buildings or building defensive barriers, players will be able to open new attack routes or secure their areas. These features will be previewed in the upcoming April update with continued improvements and expansions planned going forward.
Gameplay Tweaks
Weapon updates are planned to be released every two months in order to promote a stable ecosystem and provide players with a greater variety of options. The "Weapons Lab" will serve as a platform for players to test and provide feedback on balance adjustments before they are added to the main game. While survival-oriented elements aiming for more dynamic actions are being developed for the game, special modes are being improved and expanded for a more casual gaming experience. New game systems and content designed to increase tension and offer new challenges are among those waiting for players this year. The team system will allow players to cooperate with their teammates to fight for superiority against the opposing team and rewards will be given to teams that achieve winning streaks.
New content and collaborations
Future updates will bring new experiences to existing maps without disrupting the core gameplay while also integrating features and content from new seasons, collaborations or modes. In addition to collaborations with popular vehicle brands and unique IPs, a number of exciting collaborations and cosmetics will be added to the game with various upgrades, including upgradeable weapon cosmetics that reflect player preferences, taking the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS experience even further.
Matchmaking Improvements
Changes are coming to the matchmaking system to provide a more balanced environment in Normal Matches. The Matchmaking Points (MMR) system will undergo improvements to provide a fairer competitive environment for players of similar skill levels. Bot behavior patterns in Normal Matches will also be improved to include more natural behavior and a variety of scenarios to deliver a more immersive and meaningful experience.
Ranked Game Revisions
Significant improvements will be made to Ranked mode to strengthen the connection between Normal Matches, Ranked and eSports. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS' new map Rondo will be added to the Ranked map pool in April with consideration for its inclusion in eSports matches in the future. To make the Ranked mode more attractive, new tier rewards and Ranked-specific rewards are also waiting for you. Changes to the Ranked Points system, including a greater emphasis on kills, will ensure ranks more accurately reflect skill levels, with a pilot test planned for April.
Unreal Engine 5 & UGC
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS' migration to Unreal Engine 5 marks the beginning of an exciting journey as well as preparations for User Developed Content (UGC). The goal here is to encourage players to create and engage with their own content and foster a vibrant, player-driven ecosystem.
Anti-Cheat Improvements
To ensure a fair gaming environment, anti-cheat measures will be intensified and the focus will expand beyond Ranked to include Normal Matches and all game modes. By updating existing solutions and active use of deep learning technology, it is aimed to increase the speed and efficiency in detecting and punishing the use of prohibited software. Major developments and future anti-cheat plans will be shared transparently via developer letters, maintaining open communication with the community.
