GMA Network’s highly-anticipated historical action drama series “Pulang Araw" is set to premiere on Netflix on July 26, 2024. In a first for the Kapuso Network, the series will be available on the streaming platform 72 hours ahead of its scheduled local airing on free TV on July 29, 2024 via GMA Prime. This family drama tells stories of courage, sacrifice, and hardships that every Filipino family has. These stories were inspired by the tales of the unsung heroes who defied the odds of World War II and the Japanese occupation in the Philippines.
Headlining this groundbreaking series are some of the biggest Kapuso stars including Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza as Adelina, a selfless Filipina ready to sacrifice everything to protect her family; First Lady" of Primetime Sanya Lopez as Adelina's sister Teresita who will rise to fame as a Vaudeville performer in the Philippines but will be forced to serve as a comfort woman during the Japanese occupation; "Pambansang Ginoo" David Licauco as the reserved Japanese man named Hiroshi who will bring mystery to the series; and Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards as Eduardo, a brave and determined young Filipino man who will do everything to fight for his country with the special participation of Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo in his first villain role as a ruthless Japanese soldier named Col. Yuta Saito. “Pulang Araw” traces the intertwined lives of four childhood friends — Eduardo, Teresita, Adelina, and Hiroshi. As war ravages their homeland and Japanese forces occupy the country, their dreams, friendships, and loyalties are tested, leading them on a journey of self-discovery and resilience. Their war stories will definitely inspire and impact the lives of Filipinos today who persevere and remain hopeful despite extreme challenges.
“Pulang Araw” captures the country’s rich history that built the identity and gave freedom to every Filipino. Indeed, the program celebrates independence and heroism, a timely narrative for the commemoration of the 126th year of Philippine Independence celebrated last June 12, 2024. As part of the celebration, GMA Network gave viewers a sneak peek at the gritty drama set during World War II. The show’s trailer was unveiled last June 10, 2024 after the network's flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras, which instantly drew clamor and excitement from Kapuso fans.
From the makers of the hit historical portal fantasy series Maria Clara at Ibarra, "Pulang Araw" is slated to be another first on Philippine television as a primetime offering of GMA Entertainment Group headed by Senior Vice President for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G.
