Meanwhile, Globe urges customers to follow safe SIM registration procedures for their own protection as fraudsters continue to find ways to circumvent the SIM Registration Act. Almost two years since SIM registration became mandatory, new fraud methods continue to emerge targeting vulnerable SIM users. Globe is calling on SIM users to remain vigilant and make safe SIM registration a personal responsibility. “As much as we prioritize our customers’ safety, we also call on them to be part of the solution against persistent fraud. All things considered, the first line of defense against SIM-related fraud are the SIM users themselves. We hope they follow good personal safety practices to fend off fraud attempts,” said Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business Unit Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Eric Tanbauco. Here are important guidelines to follow when registering a new SIM:

1. Register only through Globe’s official SIM registration portal.
There are fake websites masquerading as Globe’s official portal. Globe has only one official website which is accessible via https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg. Customers may also register their SIMs via the GlobeOne app.
2. Customers should register their own SIM.
Customers must register their own SIMs to protect their data. Be wary of offers to help register SIMs or having another person register on behalf of the SIM owner. This is a modus to get the SIM users’ personal data. Registering SIMs is free of charge. Customers must be careful not to take offers of SIM registration assistance for a price, which are prevalent online or even in some retail stores which will charge double the price for a SIM. Using third-party services to register SIMs may compromise customers’ personal data. Those who need assistance in registering their SIMs may get support from the Globe Store nearest them. They may also request help from a trusted friend or relative.
3. Watch out for SIMs with tampered packaging.
Some unscrupulous sellers are peddling old SIMs with tampered packaging. This indicates that such SIMs are already used and repackaged as new. Customers must make sure to buy only sealed SIMs.
4. Do not buy or sell pre-registered SIMs.
Agreeing to register SIMs under one’s name for a fee is illegal. Customers must not involve themselves in this modus, either as the seller or the buyer. Under Section 11 of the SIM Registration Act, those found guilty of selling or transferring a registered SIM may be meted prison time of six months to six years and/or a fine ranging from Php100,000 to Php300,000.
