Cignal TV Inc., the leading pay television service provider in the Philippines, strengthened its partnership with Quickplay to deliver a wider range of content across new platforms including Android set-top boxes (STBs), enhancing the viewing experience for Filipino audiences. As part of its innovation strategy, Cignal TV is harnessing Quickplay’s cloud-native, open-architecture OTT platform to elevate its Cignal Play service through the recent launch of the Cignal Play TV Android STB which is available exclusively on online stores such as Shopee and Lazada.

Cignal Play TV, priced at Php2,990 and comes with a free one-month subscription to Cignal Play Premium and Pilipinas Live, serves as an all-in-one entertainment hub, combining various tiers of Cignal TV’s live and on-demand content with pre-installed apps like Pilipinas Live, Netflix, Disney+, HBO Go, VIU, and Lionsgate. These services are also accessible regardless of the user’s broadband provider, ensuring a seamless and diverse entertainment experience for users. Cignal TV Inc. First Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Gerard L. Milan said, “Cignal TV is committed to delivering content that our customers love across the various platforms and screens that they use, combining our vast library with that of leading streaming apps. The versatility and flexibility of the Quickplay platform have enabled us to expedite the integration of new services and availability of our content on Android devices. This will serve as the foundation for further content, product, and business model offerings in the future."

Quickplay Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer Paul Pastor said, “Strategies that make a wide variety of content available on subscriber-owned devices are essential to MVPD’s continued ownership of the living room. Cignal TV is using the power of our cloud-native platform and its existing content relationships to launch game-changing Android STB services that will enhance their competitive position in the Philippines and address the needs of its Filipino community.” Cignal TV’s transition to the Quickplay platform in 2022 brought significant improvements, including enhanced streaming performance, streamlined content management, and a user experience that quickly earned praise on Google Play. A year later, the same platform powered the launch of Pilipinas Live, a sports service aimed at Filipino viewers globally. Quickplay’s OTT platform supports service launches and telco migration strategies to IPTV, enabling scalable cloud applications with advanced technologies like containers and microservices. This technology stack offers superior performance, modular feature expansion, rapid iteration, and built-in scalability and security. Leading OTT providers and telcos, including sports giants MSG+ and YES, as well as Cignal TV in the Philippines, leverage Quickplay to deliver flexible and agile services that match or surpass broadcast reliability and performance.

Meanwhile, Cignal TV is set to launch its new OTT (over-the-top) aggregation platform Cignal Super powered by Tata Play Binge, the 'Platform as a Service (PaaS)' brand of Tata Play which is one of the leading content distribution platforms in India. This was announced during the 2024 APOS Conference in Bali, Indonesia through Tata Play Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Harit Nagpal and Cignal TV Inc. President & CEO Jane Jimenez-Basas. Tata Play Binge is a unique platform that brings diverse and popular OTT apps on a single user interface while providing the benefit of single subscription and single payment. Built with its Cloud technology, Cignal Super is currently in its test phase by pilot users and will be launched commercially in the coming months with its partner streaming platforms VIU, Lionsgate Play, Curiosity Stream, and Fuse+ among others as well as Cignal's Pilipinas Live and Cignal Play. It will allow subscribers in the Philippines to access movies, shows and live TV channels from these different OTT services with a unified subscription, and streamlined user interface on one screen.

“We’re delighted to reach another milestone with Tata Play Binge now powering Cignal Super in the Philippines. The launch of the Akash Go app and now Cignal Super app demonstrates the universal appeal of our platform and our rapid delivery times, allowing partners to create their own branded app,” said Nagpal. “At Cignal, we’re excited to launch Cignal Super, the first of its kind in the Philippines. With content becoming increasingly fragmented and streaming subscription prices increasing, we believe this service will be compelling and relevant for our customers as we simplify access to content from multiple apps into one platform - with a single subscription, unified content discovery, and one affordable price. This further establishes Cignal’s continuing commitment to aggregate the best content for our customers and we thank Tata Play and all our partners for enabling us to bring this product to life," said Basas. Tata Play Binge is streamlining the preliminary app development process for potential OTT aggregators globally by offering its proprietary Cloud technology. Through Tata Play Binge PaaS, the platform supports OTT aggregators worldwide to focus on content creation, partnership building, and subscriber acquisition without the complexities of developing and managing the technology to service aggregation.
