The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2024 solidified its reputation as the premier endurance race in Southeast Asia, drawing more than 55,000 runners from 84 countries. As the region’s only World Athletics Gold Label race, the event showcased refreshed routes, an inspiring finish at the iconic Anderson Bridge, and a celebration of athleticism and camaraderie. This year’s marathon held last November 30-December 1, 2024 surpassed previous editions with a strong international presence, including nearly 13,000 participants from outside Singapore. The marathon route offered runners a picturesque and challenging experience, combining cityscapes with vibrant spectator support.

At the end of the Marathon, Geoffrey Yegon of Kenya clinched the men’s title with a time of 02:16:06 while Ethiopia’s Fantu Zewude Jifar won the women’s race in 02:39:04. Both winners took home US$45,000 and praised Singapore for its unique race atmosphere despite the tropical heat. On the other hand, Singapore’s Soh Rui Yong claimed his fifth National Championship marathon title, finishing in 02:46:05. Rachel See, winner of the Women’s National Championship, emphasized the joy of savoring the race experience while setting an impressive time of 03:00:45. The event featured the Ekiden relay, promoting teamwork as participants raced past landmarks like Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay. Unique Ekiden medals and curated race kits further added to the excitement. The event raised funds for the Futuremakers programme, supporting youth empowerment. Kicking off the record-breaking global race weekend in Singapore was the Kids Dash officially held last November 29, 2024 at the F1 Pit Building where over 5,500 parents and children took part, marking a 10% rise in registrations compared to the previous year. The event featured young runners sprinting alongside their parents through scenic twilight views of Singapore’s skyline, taking in iconic sights of the Central Business District (CBD) before finishing back at the F1 Pit Building.

This year’s Kids Dash offered two categories to introduce children to the joy of running: a 600-meter race for kids aged 6 and under and a 900-meter race for those aged 7 to 12. The event wasn’t just about competition — it provided an opportunity for families to bond, create cherished memories, and inspire future running enthusiasts. Adding to the fun was the Kids Village, a lively area packed with bouncy castles, human foosball, game booths, and delightful treats like cotton candy and popcorn. The festival atmosphere made it a perfect outing for families. Joining the run was Guinness World Record holder Dr. Zac Leow, the fastest male para-athlete marathoner in the CI1 (men) para-classification, who ran alongside his daughter, sharing his love for running with her.“Running has given me so much, and I’m thrilled to share this passion with my daughter,” said Dr. Leow. He set his record at the 2023 SCSM, completing the marathon in 4 hours, 51 minutes, and 59 seconds — a victory he celebrated on his daughter’s birthday. Participants received special race-day entitlements, including a race bib, running tee, a Kids Dash gift, a finisher’s medal, and refreshments. Additionally, families enjoyed exclusive benefits at the Singapore Flyer and Time Capsule with free admission for kids with race bibs accompanied by an adult with a full-priced ticket. This promotion currently runs until December 8, 2024. Families like the Lees made the most of the event. “It’s always a great experience at the SCSM Kids Dash. The kids were excited and have been looking forward to it since morning,”said Mrs. Orathai Lee who participated with her husband and twin children.

The Singapore Tourism Board lauded SCSM’s role in attracting international runners and promoting Singapore as a world-class sports destination. The IRONMAN Group's Managing Director for Asia Jeff Edwards praised the event’s success, noting its ability to bring together runners of all levels and backgrounds. The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2024 left a legacy of resilience, unity, and passion, inspiring runners to prepare for even greater challenges in the years to come.
