Get ready to rev up your excitement! The Blue Blur is back with Sonic The Hedgehog 3, scoring an electrifying 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. After making waves in the U.S. with a US$230M (230 million U.S. dollars) global box office haul since December 20 of last year, Sonic’s latest adventure hits Philippine cinemas this January 15, 2025. Not only are audiences thrilled, but critics are raving too. Holding an impressive 86% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this threequel has outdone its predecessors in every way.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is way better than it has a right to be: as a video game adaptation, as a threequel, as a family-friendly movie coming out [on Christmas season],” stated in RogerEbert.com which also praised Jim Carrey for “giving not one but two gleefully deranged performances that harken to his rubber-faced comedic greatness of three decades ago”. Forbes was equally impressed, describing the movie – “it’s fun, it’s silly, it’s visually different enough and interesting enough to look good on a big screen, and most important of all it has Jim Carrey providing not one but two performances inspired enough and funny enough to make it worth watching the whole movie.” “Clever jokes, a noticeable reverence for the source material, and some fantastic antagonists make the Blue Blur’s latest race an entertaining ride from start to finish,” raved Collider.com. Variety was also impressed, stating, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is wired-up synthetic fun. It’s a trivial kiddie flick that moves at the speed of your mind playing video games. Video-game films seldom have that quality – they tend to be overproduced and lugubrious. But Sonic 3 gives hyperactivity a good name. Jeff Fowler, who directed all three of these movies, is a quicker and wittier flimflam magician of energy than he was when he made the first Sonic in 2020.”

In a special “Double Your Villain” featurette, Carrey delves into his hilarious and villainous dual roles. If you thought one Dr. Robotnik was chaotic, wait until you see him multiply. Catch a glimpse here:

Directed by Jeff Fowler, the mastermind behind all three Sonic films, this installment kicks things into overdrive. Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba), and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) face their toughest challenge yet: Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves), a formidable foe with unmatched powers. When their usual tricks fail, Team Sonic turns to an unexpected ally for help in this action-packed, heartwarming journey that fans of all ages will love.
