A sustainable open space offers more than just a place to unwind — it becomes a home where families create lasting memories. Surrounded by nature's beauty and the beautiful skyline, it invites laughter, stories, and shared moments that strengthen bonds. Every corner is designed with care, providing a peaceful haven where parents can relax, children can play freely, furbabies can meet one another, and loved ones can simply enjoy each other's company. It is a space that nurtures both relationships and the environment, reminding us that the best moments in life are those spent together. The year 2025 began with a significant surprise from SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City as February 25, 2025 marked the opening of MOA Sky, a sprawling open-space park on the fourth level of the mall that is created for everyone to enjoy and spend memorable quality time together.
During its launch, SM Supermalls President Steven Tan shared that MOA Sky began as a vision over a decade ago. He recalled a meeting with SM Prime Chairman Hans Sy where they discussed elevating Mall of Asia to new heights, saying, "We have to wow the customers. The gift of SM to all our customers is MOA Sky. For years, SM Mall of Asia has stood as one of the largest malls, a global destination but today, we go beyond size — we elevate the entire experience. Welcome to MOA Sky, where every moment is larger than life." Tan said. MOA Sky is a 65,000-square-meter open-air park built atop the mall. Instead of leaving the rooftop vacant, SM transformed it into a vast public space where visitors can walk, relax, play sports, appreciate art, and find quiet retreats. At the heart of MOA Sky is the MOA Football Pitch, a FIFA-grade football field with 1,800 seats. The Philippine women’s national football team Filipinas led by Sarina Bolden, Quinley Quezada, and Jacklyn Sawicki attended the historic launch alongside Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President John Gutierrez. SM’s Regional Operations Head Perkin So emphasized the importance of this addition, stating, "We wanted to support a growing sport that has limited spaces available. Something Filipinos can be proud of." Gutierrez added, "In partnership with the PFF, we hope that we can produce more locally developed players." MOA Sky’s football pitch is set to host international tournaments, college games, and community matches. Interested groups and organizations can reserve the venue for a fee.
The tour proceeded to the MOA Sanctuary, a peaceful garden offering a quiet retreat. At its center stands a glass oval structure serving as both a prayer space and art gallery. Perkin So revealed that the first exhibition, opening in March, will feature a Lenten theme with religious relics on display. Art lovers will find delight at the North Sky Plaza where Filipino-American artist Jefre unveiled 12 Zodiac-themed art installations. "There are maps to guide you. The horoscope changes monthly. Just scan the QR code," said So. Jefre expressed his excitement about being part of this project, saying, "The 12 Zodiacs represent the traits of Filipinos. It is a great way to showcase what it means to be Filipino and how public art is part of our culture." MOA Sky also highlights SM’s commitment to sustainability. A 3-megawatt solar rooftop powers the entire park while the canopy design blends functionality with aesthetics. Pet owners can enjoy the MOA Paw Park which features three zones: an obstacle course, a Poop and Pee Zone, and an Off-Leash Zone. Spaces can be booked for special occasions including birthday celebrations for furry friends. Artistic expression takes center stage at the South Plaza where live painting sessions by artists such as Jouache Panaligan, Erwin Grino, Rai Cruz, and AC Bautista draw the attention of passersby.
For 25-year-old artist Jouache, the open space offers a refreshing venue to create and connect with fellow creatives. He said, "Kanina may mga batang dumadaan, napa-wow sila kasi first time nakakita ng mga artists na live gumagawa ng art. Sobrang importante yun kasi nung bata ako, tumitingin lang ako ng art at eventually natuto na ako gumawa ng sarili kong art." Both the North and Sky Plazas will host picnics, fairs, flea markets, fan meets, and other events organized by various groups. The MOA Amphitheater, a 3,200-square-meter entertainment area, will serve as a venue for open-air performances, concerts, fashion shows, and more. On its opening day, the amphitheater hosted a free concert featuring Adie, Hale, and December Avenue. Football fans also witnessed an exhibition match by Team Filipinas, marking the opening of the MOA Football Pitch. The festivities concluded with a fireworks display, a Mall of Asia signature, followed by a drone show that illuminated the night sky. Tan concluded, "Beyond the sights and sounds, MOA Sky is a testament to our commitment to the future, including sustainability. It is a destination that inspires and redefines what is possible. With this, we can truly say the sky is the limit for MOA. A truly Filipino product that is world-class."
