The Department of Education (DepEd) has now joined forces with Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) and Solar Pictures Inc. to re-strengthen DepEd TV and expand learning strategies to address learning loss during disasters. DepEd TV is a project of the national government and various local broadcast and content partners that was first used during the global COVID-19 pandemic and delivered broadcast TV-based learning to millions of students while schools were closed.

Under the tripartite Memorandum of Agreement signed last November 6, 2025 inside the DepEd Central Office, the three institutions will collaborate to expand 21st-century learning delivery, media integration in classrooms, and content-based pedagogy. KCFI will provide educational content and materials aligned with DepEd curriculum standards while Solar Pictures will provide a digital terrestrial television channel dedicated to DepEd TV programs. According to Education Secretary Sonny Angara, this initiative is in response to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to make education responsive to the challenges of the times. “We have communities where learners study in temporary shelters and teachers persevere despite losing their classrooms due to earthquakes or typhoons. These are the realities of our new normal. It is difficult, but deeply reassuring to know that partners like you continue to stand with us in keeping education going.” Sec. Angara emphasized that due to the series of calamities, the continuation of learning must depend solely on in-person classes. DepEd TV is one of the Department's steps to deliver lessons directly to homes and communities using platforms that are easily accessible even without the internet.

KCFI President and Executive Director Rina Lopez said the new agreement is a continuation of the long-standing aspiration of Knowledge Channel, which is celebrating its 26th anniversary, to make quality learning accessible. “From early childhood to K–12 and ALS, we remain dedicated to delivering engaging, culturally grounded, and gender-sensitive lessons that make learning stick — supported by data, feedback, and continuous improvement.” Solar Pictures President and CEO Wilson Y. Tieng expressed their joy at being part of this significant project, stating, “We look forward to this journey together and to witnessing the impact this collaboration will have on the lives of millions of Filipino students.” The non-exclusive agreement with KCFI and Solar Pictures will enable DepEd can collaborate with other content providers who can provide quality educational materials that are in line with the DepEd curriculum and standards. An initiative by DepEd in collaboration with partners, DepEd TV aims to promote inclusive, innovative, and climate-resilient education and to ensure that no child is left behind.
