In a time when screens dominate entertainment, one up-and-coming Batangas-based theater group dares to bring storytelling back to where conversations naturally happen which is inside a coffee shop. “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw” is an immersive theatrical experience staged in the cozy Hashtag Coffee Capitol Site branch in Batangas City, making live acting feel personal, raw, and incredibly close to the community. The play initiated by Teatro B, an emerging collective of passionate actors from different parts of Batangas province, redefines how stories are told and experienced.

Instead of grand stages and heavy curtains, the performance unfolds close to the audience. The sipping from a cup of coffee and the loud crowd reactions became part of the atmosphere, blurring the line between reality and performance. In a single seat, “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw” audiences are taken on a rollercoaster of emotions from kilig-inducing moments that make you giddy, to heart-wrenching scenes that may leave you teary-eyed, to laugh-out-loud exchanges that feel painfully relatable. Each episode explores themes of love, letting go, identity, and human vulnerability which are stories that resonate deeply with everyday Filipinos. The actors, with their intimate proximity to the audience, deliver performances that feel less like a show and more like shared experiences. Every sigh, every trembling voice, every pause becomes magnified in the closeness of the setting. Beyond its innovative staging, the heart of the production lies in its mission which is bringing live theater closer to the people. By choosing a coffee shop as its stage, Teatro B removes the intimidation often associated with traditional theater venues. There are no velvet seats or towering platforms just authentic storytelling in a familiar, welcoming space.

“Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw” is more than just a title but a sentiment many can relate to. It speaks of the tension between holding on and letting go, between staying and walking away. Through its three episodes, it gently asks the audience: When do we fight, and when do we finally choose to let go? “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw” is the inaugural production of Teatro B's Brunch Theatre featuring a selection of one-act plays from Ampalaya Monologues, the country’s leading spoken word collective known for powerful, relatable, and socially resonant storytelling. Brunch Theatre departs from the traditional evening curtain call, offering performances scheduled in the late mornings to early afternoons. Audiences can enjoy a play while savoring brunch favorites or coffee — often within cafés, restaurants, or other intimate venues — creating a more social, immersive, and accessible way to experience the arts. What sets Brunch Theatre apart is its casual and welcoming atmosphere, removing the formality often associated with conventional theatre spaces. The setup allows audiences to eat, drink, and settle in comfortably while enjoying intimate storytelling, such as monologues and one-act plays that thrive in smaller, close-knit settings. The format is also deeply community-focused, encouraging conversations before and after the show, making theatre a shared experience rather than a distant spectacle.

Designed to be approachable and inclusive, Brunch Theatre is ideal for first-time theatre-goers, younger audiences, and anyone curious about live performance but seeking a more relaxed entry point. It brings stories closer to everyday life — where theatre feels less like an event you dress up for and more like meaningful moments shared over coffee. As Teatro B continues to champion community-centered storytelling, this production stands as proof that theater does not need grandiosity to be powerful. Sometimes, all it needs is a cup of coffee, a small space, and stories that feel like they are your own. With Brunch Theatre, Teatro B continues its mission to make theatre more accessible and rooted in community — marking a new chapter for the performing arts scene in Batangas.

Because in that intimate café setting, you are not just watching a play but you are part of it. If you haven't buy ticket yet, this is your chance to change your usual weekend habit.
