Just months after launching as one of Batangas’ newest theatre groups, Teatro B continues to gain strong support from local audiences as its breakout production Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw officially extends its run to April 11 and 12 following a series of sold-out shows. Since its premiere, the production has captured the attention of Batangueños with its unique “Brunch Theatre” experience — a format that blends live theatre with a relaxed café-style atmosphere, allowing audiences to enjoy a morning of storytelling alongside their favorite brunch and coffee.
The overwhelming response from the community has been evident with all five shows (February 28 and March 1, 7, 8, and 14) selling out, prompting Teatro B to open additional performances for theatergoers who were unable to secure tickets during the initial run. The production also received praise from writer Mark Ghosn whose three one-act plays from the Ampalaya Monologues serve as the foundation of the show. Ghosn, together with members of Ampalaya Monologues, attended one of the performances and commended the Batangueño theatre community for warmly embracing the concept. “The reason why I wrote Ampalaya Monologues was because there was a need for this kind of theatre. I don't usually do theatre in an auditorium or in a venue na talagang theatre — my theatre is really in alternative platforms. I wanna bring theatre closer to people, in the streets, in the cafés, and wherever you commune. That's why when Perry (Teatro B Director Peregrine Santiago) had the same vision for Teatro B, immediately I said ‘Go!’. We want this to happen, and thanks to all of you for showing up, we made it happen,” said Ghosn.
Teatro B’s vision of making theatre more accessible and community-driven is also shared by theater director Peregrine Santiago who believes the growing interest from Batangueño audiences reflects their openness to new artistic experiences. In an interview with BroadwayWorld Philippines, Santiago shared, “The Batangueño audience or community, they just want to see another form of entertainment. We're trying to build a community, we're trying to teach them how theatre works — how different stories can be told through different theatre platforms. They want to see and experience something different.” Teatro B, which only recently launched in Batangas, aims to make theatre more accessible and engaging for local audiences by presenting intimate productions that resonate with everyday experiences. The success of Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw signals a growing appreciation for live performances and emerging theatre culture in the province. With the newly announced extension dates, audiences will have another chance to witness the heartfelt and relatable stories that have sparked conversations among theatre fans and first-time showgoers alike.
Tickets for the extended performances of Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw on April 11 and 12 are expected to sell quickly as Teatro B continues to build momentum with Batangas audiences. For ticket inquiries and updates, follow Teatro B on its official social media pages.
