Not everyone uses a smartphone in the same way. For some, it’s a productivity tool that keeps work moving throughout the day. For others, it’s a camera, entertainment screen, gaming device, or a way to express personal style. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z series embraces these differences with a simple idea: there is a foldable designed for the way you live.
After eight years of developing foldable technology, Samsung has moved beyond simply proving that a smartphone can fold. The focus now is on making that flexibility meaningful in everyday life. Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) Head of Corporate Marketing Jun Guevara sees the growing interest in the category as evidence of that shift, pointing to increased foldable repurchase rates following last year’s Galaxy Z Fold7 and record pre-orders for the latest Galaxy Z series. “One thing we’ve learned is that people no longer see foldables as niche products.” Guevara pointed to Samsung’s observation that more users are moving from their Galaxy S series Ultra smartphones to the Galaxy Z Fold7, suggesting that foldables are becoming a more familiar choice for consumers and, for some, a form factor they are choosing to stick with. That shift, according to Guevara, reflects years of refining foldable technology around the way people actually use their devices. Rather than asking consumers to change their habits, Samsung has focused on building familiar, everyday experiences into each new generation. “We’ve seamlessly integrated everyday user experiences into our devices, turning them into purposeful enhancements with each foldable generation.” That philosophy is reflected in the newest Galaxy Z lineup: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Each device approaches the foldable experience differently, giving users more choice depending on whether their priorities lean toward productivity, content discovery, creativity, portability, or self-expression.
For those whose days revolve around multitasking and getting more done, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra brings Samsung’s Ultra experience into the foldable category for the first time. Its expansive 8-inch main display provides more room for working across applications while its performance and camera capabilities are designed to support both everyday responsibilities and pursuits outside of work. The larger canvas can also change how users approach multitasking. Guevara shared that Samsung’s studies found Fold users utilize Multi Window five times more than Galaxy S26 Ultra users. “When you give users access to a larger display, multitasking becomes easier and more important to them,” highlighting how the expanded screen can encourage users to do more at once. The Galaxy Z Fold8 takes that extra screen space in another direction, putting greater emphasis on discovery and immersion. Its wider 4:3 main display is designed for activities such as browsing, reading, gaming, and watching content while its 201-gram weight makes it the world’s lightest fold at the moment. For creators and professionals, the larger displays of the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra also provide more room for Galaxy AI-powered tools. On the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Now Nudge is designed to help users take action with fewer movements between applications, while the Fold8’s larger canvas makes features such as My FanCam and Document Scan more practical for reviewing and organizing content. On the other side of the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip8 which approaches foldable technology through portability and self-expression. Its reimagined FlexWindow allows users to access apps, information, AI-powered features, and actions without having to open the phone, making quick interactions more seamless. The Galaxy Z Flip8 also builds on the camera experience that has become closely associated with the Flip form factor. Through FlexCam and FlexMode, features such as Super Steady with Horizontal Lock and Camcorder Grip give users more flexibility when capturing content hands-free. Its 180-gram, 6.1-millimeter-thin design further emphasizes portability, making it suited to users who want their phone to fit naturally into both their everyday routines and personal style.
For Guevara, the differences between the three devices are intentional. “There is no blanket ‘perfect’ foldable for everyone because we all have different needs.” The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is geared toward users who want the most capable foldable experience, the Fold8 toward those looking for a wider canvas for discovery and creation, and the Flip8 toward those who prioritize convenience, portability, and self-expression. Ultimately, Samsung’s latest lineup suggests that the future of foldables may not be about one form factor eventually replacing all others. Instead, the company sees different designs serving different moments and lifestyles. As Guevara explained, “We want to give our users more device choices so that they can find the one that fits their lifestyle best.” After eight years of innovation, that may be the wider possibility Samsung is opening up: not simply a phone that folds, but a device experience that can fold around the way each person lives.
