The first commercially-released digital television service in the Philippines recently earned another nod from an international award-giving body, while two of the country's premier pro gaming teams are set to compete against the finest in Southeast Asia within their own home turf.  ABS-CBN TV Plus Wins Stevie Anew

The premier digital terrestrial television service in the Philippines recently made waves anew at the 2017 Asia Pacific Stevie Awards as ABS-CBN TV Plus won a Bronze Stevie for Business-to-Business (B2B) Services.

The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards honors and recognizes the best and the finest among products and services in the said region. ABS-CBN TV Plus, which has more than 3 million units sold so far, has been hailed for its continuing efforts to bring a clearer and more enjoyable television viewing experience to Filipinos through the service's exclusive channels and Kapamilya Box Office (KBO).

ABS-CBN TV Plus was previously hailed at the 2016 International Business Awards where it won a Silver Stevie for Best New Product - Media and Entertainment and Bronze for Best in Marketing Campaign. It was also honored at last year's Asia Pacific Stevie Awards winning two Bronze Stevie Awards for the said categories.

Execration, Mineski To Represent PH Against ASEAN Pro Gamers

 Fresh from the Philippine launch of its Zenfone 4 line, ASUS recently staged the Philippine Finals of the ROG Masters 2017 last August 20, 2017 at the SM City North EDSA event center where pro gaming teams from different parts of the country compete for a chance to represent the country in the Southeast Asia Regional Finals.

In the end, Execration and Mineski were hailed as DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike: Go champions respectively and these two are slated to compete against the finest pro gaming teams in the region with a prize pool of US$500,000 (Php25,000,000) at stake. By the way, the ASUS ROG Masters 2017 SEA Regional Finals will be held in Manila if you haven't checked social media. OPPO, Vivo Make Top 5 in PH Smartphone Market

The first half of 2017 was a bizaare period for the Philippine smartphone market with local and international brands showcasing their new line of mobile marvels with engaging specs and features that suit the demands of any tech-centric consumer. Despite their efforts, it seems that smartphone sales within the period is slightly dwindling but remain stable. However, the impact of OPPO and Vivo in our local shores come as an interesting surprise.

Based on recent data released by IDC for the second quarter of 2017, the two Chinese brands have made their entry into the top five smartphone brands in the Philippines in terms of market share pushing Huawei and ASUS off the list. Despite their entry, Cherry Mobile and Samsung remain the top brands with Cloudfone squeezing between the purveyors of the global selfie war. However, there is something more for local and international brands to learn from the IDC report.

According to the said report, mobile brands must improve their marketing strategy to boost their impact in the smartphone market. This means that it would take more than just a showcase and a bit of celebrity endorsements to make a dent and break even in the market, and they know that social media is one of their possible keys to success.
