Who would have thought that one hotline would become an advocacy that
aims to not only save the lives of Filipino children but also protect their
welfare and rights? This has been the commitment of Bantay Bata 163 since its
inception in 1997.
For two decades, Bantay Bata 163 has received hundreds of thousands of
complaints from concerned citizens regarding different situations involving children
thus resulting in more than 1,000 young souls being saved. The advocacy is also
exerting its own efforts to ensure the welfare of Filipino children such as a
Children's Village built exclusively for the abandoned and orphaned youth and various
activities that showcase and promote the advocacy of the hotline.
On its 20th year anniversary, one of the ongoing programs of ABS-CBN's
Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation recently staged a charity fashion show featuring
works from no less than international fashion designer Rocky Gathercole. These outfits
designed by Gathercole symbolize the story of his life considering that he was
once a victim of child abuse. To the delight of guests, capping off the event
is the popular TonDeng tandem (Ian Veneracion and Bea Alonzo) from the
top-rating primetime drama series A Love To Last which chronicles the rejoined
designer's "happily ever after" moment.
