A joint project of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and SM Lifestyle and Entertainment Inc., Cine Lokal aims to provide independent film makers with a platform that could showcase their best works to a wider audience, as well as to create a culture of support and viewership of Filipino movie buffs to the independent scene. To make the project possible, eight SM Cinema branches has been tapped as venues for films to be screened by the FDCP namely SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, SM Southmall, SM Bacoor, SM Cebu and SM Iloilo.
The selection of movies to be shown in these theaters will range from award-winning Filipino movies, independently produced films, regional movies, classic box-office flicks, and even foreign films. And kicking off Sine Lokal will be in observance of the Lenten Season in the Philippines as the FDCP has chosen films that will reflect on faith and religion. These include the digitally remastered version of the 80s classic film "Himala", the Oscar-winning film "Spotlight, "Iadya Mo Kami", and "Of Sinners and Saints", among others.
The films selected for screening will have a guaranteed one-week run and are slated to make a crossover to a regular screening depending on the reception and demand of the viewing audience. The selection could also follow a theme suited for each month, such as in celebration of Mother's Day.
Tickets are available for an introductory price of Php120 throughout the month of April, followed by a Php30 increase starting May to keep the screenings sustainable. For more information, you may follow the official Facebook page of FDCP and Cine Lokal.
