Honestly, I never watched a single episode of Brillante Mendoza Presents on TV5 due to the nature of my family when it comes to watching television but I'm impressed at how the episode is interpreted whenever I watch their teasers. Heck, what can you expect from the first Filipino and Asian filmmaker who won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival back in 2009?

Every episode of this monthly movie-made-for-television series is unique in every way, and every story that these movies can tell is set in various places all over the country. Many Filipinos who have watched them treat this as just a television show, but it's not in the case of Brillante Mendoza and myself as well. At the end of the day, a film is just a film regardless of where it is shown whether it is on television or in international film festivals. And I think that is what I like about not only the series, but also the network that airs them.

Since Philippine men's basketball team coach Chot Reyes took over as president and CEO late last year, TV5 has been bringing and delivering its own intriguing mix of programming that is unbelievably more interesting than the traditional norm of the network wars and suit the demands of the typical Filipino televiewer today. The mix includes Wattpad Presents and Aniplus for the youth, Philippines' Next Top Model: High Street for the fashion-savvy, WWE Smackdown Live (the one-hour edition) for the wrestling fan, PBA games for the hoop addict, and so much more. With that in case, more people are starting to embrace the changes made by what was once known as the happy network through its new battlecry "Choose Courage".

With the creative freedom of the award-winning independent film director imbued in each of the movies aired on TV5 every month, more Filipinos would have the chance to look at these underrated movies in a more convenient and binge-watching way.
