It seems that the less threatening rainy season will not be a hindrance
for 32 of the finest beach volleyball teams in the Philippines to compete in
the upcoming Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) National Championships. However, this
thrilling conclusion to a successful year for the premiere beach volleyball
organization in the country is stepping up a notch as these teams will be
playing for not just friendly competition, but most particularly for national
pride as well.
Sixteen teams in both the men's and women's division featuring some of
the best volleyball players in our local shores will have a chance to prove
that they deserve to represent the Philippines in the international scene as
the top three in the national finals will become part of the national training
pool aside from winning huge amounts of cash considering that the event is
officially sanctioned by Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas (LVPI), Inc. From
there, the LVPI will select players who will represent the Philippines in the
upcoming Southeast Asian Beach Volley Games to be held in Singapore.
These participating teams include FEU, Dipolog, Coast Guard, NU,
Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, RTU, La Salle Bacolod, Ateneo, Navy, and Coast Guard in
the Men's division; as well as RTU, Ateneo, Iloilo, Cebu, Bacolod, Tagum, PNP,
and Perlas in the Women's division. Some of these teams are champions in
various BVR On Tour tournaments held throughout the season, which makes much
sense for those who have learned about the sport. Well, spectators can expect hard-hitting
action in the courts and in the sands with the national championship on the way.
As I have mentioned, the national championship is basically the
culmination of an exciting season for Beach Volleyball Republic. With that in mind,
it is without any doubt that many local sports enthusiasts are starting to take
notice on not just the organization but also the sport of beach volleyball
knowing that it is a brainchild of some of Philippine volleyball's greats like
Charo Soriano and Bea Tan. Aside from staging tournaments in different parts of
the country, BVR has also been keen in training young Filipinos through its own
series of "sandroots" programs which is eventually part of its vision
to become the beach volleyball hub of Asia.
