More Filipinos are starting to enjoy participating in half-distance
triathlons and have even competed with some of the world's best and local
celebrities although there are some who want to travel to different parts of
the world and compete for a full Ironman race. Now, it is time for local
triathletes to experience first-hand the drama, glory and spectacle of a full
distance triathlon race with the staging of next year's Century Tuna Ironman Philippines
which will be held in Subic Bay on June 3, 2018.
Presented by Sunrise Events Inc. and Century Pacific Foods Inc., it
will be the first time for Century Tuna Ironman Philippines since 2009 to go full distance
that aims to challenge the physical and mental toughness of participating
triathletes in a gruelling competition opposed to the 70.3 km races which were
staged in the Philippines in recent years. The Ironman 140.6 Philippines debut
will have racers swim one loop over 3.86 km then put them on a two-loop
120-mile bike ride before culminating to a longer 42K two-loop run all the way
to the finish at Remy Field.
Century Tuna Ironman Philippines indeed became an avenue for the local
triathlon community to grow and progress with an overwhelming consistent
reception from ordinary Filipinos who want to further improve their healthy
lifestyle to personalities who want to experience a real triathlon race. But
for the upcoming event that will span 140.6 miles of pure toughness, it is an
opportunity of a lifetime for more Filipinos to compete in a full distance
Ironman race without the need to travel since the Philippines is holding the
first of its kind.
One thousand assured slots are up for grabs to those who want to
participate in the world's hardest endurance race and test their own
limitations on how they can do a full distance triathlon. It is without
question that holding a full distance Ironman race in the Philippines is
something that should not be underestimated, and no doubt it will be one of the
most exciting events to hit 2018 par none.
