Following the Philippines' successful campaign at the 9th ASEAN Para
Games held in Kuala Lumpur, the Philippine Paralympic Committee/Philippine
Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PPC-PHILSPADA) officially launched
a digital fundraiser that aims to strengthen the country's support for the differently-abled
athletes.
In partnership with Rising Tide Mobile Entertainment, "Alay PARA
Atleta" is slated to serve as a convenient and accessible platform for the
public to participate in and express support to the national paralympic movement
which is geared towards raising public awareness for athletes with disabilities
and the implementation of a grassroots development program. The program has eventually
tapped the UAAP which is committed to provide manpower and joint training
venues in preparation for the 2019 ASEAN Para Games.
The fundraiser is considered to be a new milestone for the
differently-abled athletes as they continue to witness the growth and development
of para sports in the Philippines through years of experience. Before the said
growth, support for these athletes was few and limited since the Martial Law
years where many have experienced lack of formal training and equipment during
those times.
