ESGS 2017

The Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) 2017 was a highly resounding success with more than 19,800 attending the long weekend gaming affair at the SMX Convention Center and this year's turnout is what anyone can expect from if not the biggest gaming convention in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Although I wasn't able to enjoy the said affair due to my own numerous hindrances, social media and reports from local tech and gaming bloggers are enough for me to satisfy what is going on in the three-day encounter featuring some of the biggest to hit the gaming market soon. With that in mind, I could share with you some of the takeaways that make this year's ESGS as shiny as the usual.

First and foremost is no less than the biggest names in the video game industry such as Sony, Capcom and Ubisoft among others bringing their own variety of topnotch games that are slated to become available on various gaming platforms. Despite the fact that many of these games are simply demos, it is good for gaming-centric honchos to try out what they can expect once such as Monster Hunter World, Just Dance 2018, Assassin's Creed Origins, and Call of Duty: WWII are out.

Then there are the local game developers in which every staging of the ESGS will not be complete without them. Some of the huge and intriguing surprises I've learned were the official launch of the "Ang Panday" mobile game prior to its MMFF release, Synergy88's announcement of the Barangay 143 anime based on the mobile game of the same name being slated to air in summer of 2018, and the likes of Project Xandata and Garrison: Archangel which has delighted those who have tried out.

There are many gaming tournaments being held throughout the three-day convention but highlighting the e-sports part of the event is the Southeast Asia regional finals of ASUS ROG Masters 2017 where the winners will represent the region in the grand finals which will be held in Malaysia on December. Finally is something that really surprised me the most and it is what those who are updating on the event did not expect to learn, and that would be the presence of the upcoming 2018 Taipei Game Show presenting what to expect in the said event considering that it was one of the surprise announcements to have come out throughout the occasion.

Anyway, there is too much happenings in ESGS 2017 that I cannot tell but I have to commend Gariath Concepts for making the event something that Filipino gamers would look forward to in the near future. I would not be surprised if next year's summit will be attended by an average of 20,000 people depending on the announcements leading to the affair. And that is what matters and what will next year without any doubts.
