Residents
and workers in the island of Boracay and within the province of Aklan were once
getting used to travel for several hours just to watch the hottest blockbusters
that come out on the big screen. Well, not anymore.
Citymall
Commercial Centers Inc. (CMCCI), the community mall development arm of DoubleDragon Properties
Corporation, and ABS-CBN Corporation, the premiere media and entertainment
company in the Philippines, formally launched the first-ever cinemas on the world-class
island last December 15, 2017, and what better way to make these theaters
available to the public than by screening Star Wars: The Last Jedi on a blustery
weekend defying the coming of tropical storm Urduja brewing Visayas.
Boasting
of a state-of-the-art projection and sound system, CityMall-Boracay cinemas feature
two theaters with a total seating capacity of 220. These cinemas can also
screen the latest blockbusters on their release date. After the second
installment of the epic Star Wars sequel trilogy, CityMall-Boracay will then
screen The Revenged Squad starring Vice Ganda, Daniel Padilla and Miss Universe
2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Ang Panday starring and directed by Coco Martin beginning
on Christmas Day.
"The
addition of cinemas is part of our thrust of bringing modern conveniences to Boracay,"
said DoubleDragon Properties president Ferdinand Sia. "Residents can now
enjoy the latest box-office releases without the need to travel, adding more
enjoyable leisure activities in the island."
The
cinemas are part of what CityMall's two-storey community mall in Boracay offers
aside from the flagship brands of Jollibee Foods Corporation and SM Investments
as well as other national and local brands which makes CityMall-Boracay the island's
top commercial destination that offers convenience and variety of choices for
residents, workers and tourists alike.
CityMall-Boracay
cinemas are the latest additions in what the community mall brand is rolling
out across the country following the respective opening of theaters in CityMall-Anabu
in Imus, Cavite; CityMall-Consolacion in Cebu; CityMall-Dumaguete; and
CityMall-Mandalagan in Bacolod City which were all already operational.
CityMall is expected to open cinemas in around 100 malls by 2020 with an
overall total seating capacity of 12,000.
