Amistoso took home the grand prize of Php1 million after besting nine other finalists that were chosen from over 9,000 entries. "Titibo-Tibo" revolves around a boyish girl who is beginning to feel womanly when she falls in love with a guy. In a post-finals interview, Amistoso considered the happy song as her lucky charm and stated that the song is poised to have a happy with ending.
Jona's heartbreaking song "Sampu", composed by Raizo
Chabeldin and Biv de Vera, was chosen as the second best song while "Extensyon",
composed by Michael "Aimee" Aplacador and performed by IƱigo Pascual
featuring Aikee, was announced as the third best song. Meanwhile, Janella
Salvador's "Wow Na Feelings" with words and music by Karlo Zabala
bagged the fourth best song recognition as well as TFC Global's Choice for Favorite
Song special award while the 5th best song went to "Tanghaling Tapat"
sung by Unit 405 and composed by the band's lead singer Gabriel Tagadtad. The
composers behind these songs won cash prizes of Php500,000, Php200,000,
Php150,000, and Php100,000 respectively.
On the other hand, "Tayo Na Lang Kasi", composed by Soc
Villanueva and interpreted by Jason Dy and Kyla, bagged most of the special
awards including MOR 101.9 FM's Choice for Favorite Song, One Music PH Choice
for Favorite Interpreter and MYX Choice for Best Music Video which is given to
students of Meridian International School who are behind the song's official
music video. "The Labo Song", composed by Karl Gaurano and Teodoro
Katigbak and performed by acoustic soul artist Kaye Cal, bagged the Star Music
Listeners' Choice special award.
The other finalists in the competition are "Bagyo" (composed
by Agatha Morallos and interpreted by Jake Zyrus), "Bes" (composed by
Eric de Leon and sung by Migz Haleco), and "Naririnig Mo Ba?"
(composed by LJ Manzano and Joan Da and performed by Morisette).
ABS-CBN and Star Music's Himig Handog, the largest songwriting
competition in the Philippines, is now on its 8th year. Since it began in the
early 2000s followed by its revival in 2003, many entries from the songwriting
tilt have become huge hits in their own right and are eventually tapped as theme
songs for numerous television shows and movies. The Himig Handog 2017 official
album is available now in record bars and music stores nationwide for only
Php250 while digital tracks can be downloaded in digital music stores worldwide.
