The
new official entries have been revealed for the fourth edition of the Sinag
Maynila Film Festival where they are slated to carry the event's ongoing
advocacy with their own brand of artistic storytelling that can appeal to
international film festivals.
Solar
Entertainment Corporation president and Sinag Maynila founder Wilson Tieng and
world-renouned award-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza are grateful for the unwavering
support from the local film industry, media and sponsors since the festival's
inception in 2015. The immense success of Sinag Maynila has paved the way for
the likes of Tu Pug Imatuy (The Right To Kill) and Kristo to be recognized
around the world in various international film festivals.
With
that in mind, here are the official entries in the Full Length category. Some
of them may have or are set to be screened abroad, but these will be shown for
the first time in Philippine cinemas courtesy of Sinag Maynila.
1. ABOMINATION by Yam Laranas
(Starring Tippy
Dos Santos, Tony Moynihan, Justine Peña)
A
young woman who is found unconscious in a city street, claims to be another
person who was brutally murdered two months ago, and escapes from a psychiatric
hospital in order to prove her identity and find the truth about her life, her
death and her murderer.
2. BOMBA (The Bomb) by Ralston
Jover (Starring
Allen Dizon, Angelline Nichole Sanoy, Allan Paule, Kate Brios)
A
deaf named Pipo is taking on the toughest jobs to support himself and his teenage
lover Cyril. However, there are problems that will soon trigger Pipo like a ticking
time bomb.
3. EL PESTE by Richard Somes (Starring Mon Confiado,
Jean Judith Zeta, Alvin Anson)
Abner
is living a drab, downcast solitary existence with his job at a pest control
company named Panther as his only connection to the outside world until he
meets Viola who has lived the same existence as he is. Their affair will lead
to a tragic moment that will change their lives forever.
4.
MELODRAMA/RANDOM/MELBOURNE! by Matthew Victor Pastor (Starring Celina Yuen,
Bridget O' Brien, Rachel Javier, Khoa Le)
In
case you want to know what makes the movie unique among all the entries in this
year's Sinag Maynila is that it is presented in glorious Cine-oke! which many
of you will feel quite unfamiliar with that term. Anyway, it revolves around a
Fil-Aus feminist documentation who is struggling to complete her new film but a
tragic incident involving a sex worker will put that project into a different
kind of blurryness. You just gonna have to watch the film to find out.
5. TALE OF THE LOST BOYS by
Joselito Altarejos (Starring Oliver Aquino and Ta Su)
This
is a freshly refreshing tale of friendship between a Filipino mechanic Alex and
a Taiwanese aboriginal student Jerry. Their conversations and road trip across
Taipei will lead them to their own sense of identity and freedom.
