The Department of Tourism has officially announced in a press
conference recently held at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga that the
Philippines is slated to become the venue for the 41st edition of the World's Strongest
Man competition which will take place at the start of the country's summer
season.
Since its inception in 1977, the World's Strongest Man has been highly-regarded as a premier event in strength athletics. The competition has been held in various countries around the world through the years including Zambia, Iceland, Mauritius, Morocco, Malaysia, USA, and last year's host country Botswana.
More than 30 participants from different parts of the globe are set to
compete in a series of events which comprises of car lift, airplane pull and
truck pulling among others. These will take place in Ilocos Sur, Iloilo and
Davao as identified by the DOT and they will be open to the public for free.
For Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, the country's hosting of the prestigious
strongman competition will push the department's stride to promote sports and
adventure tourism in the Philippines in the coming months.
The World's Strongest Man competition will kick off with qualifying
rounds from April 28th to May 1st while the tournament finals will be a two-day
event which is slated to be held on May 5 and 6, 2018. The two-week sporting
event will be shown around the world via CBS Worldwide, which reaches 470
million viewing households across 70 countries.
