The five-month long siege in Marawi City which happened last year has
affected the lives of thousands of the city's residents, especially the
children. Schools have been damaged by the ravaged war and are currently on the
verge of rehabilitation while young students have no longer access to education
and can't afford basic learning materials such as books and school supplies.
With the rebuilding of Marawi going underway, it is time for us to do what we
can to help the young victims of the siege.
And what better way for us to help the children of Marawi overcome difficulties
and dream again than to give them the gift of reading. Why? Based on studies,
reading is considered a powerful tool for healing as it helps one's mind find
its peaceful place. This is due to the fact that a book or two can be motivating
and inspirational. Furthermore, it can provide a vision of human strength. What
we know about the benefits of reading is why The SM Store officially kicked off
its Donate-a-Book campaign for the benefit of the children of Marawi.
Joining forces with SM Stationery, shoppers can have the chance to
donate old and new books as well as brand new school supplies on booths that
are set up in all of The SM Store branches nationwide until June 30, 2018. For
every donation, a customer will be entitled to a Php50 discount coupon which
can be redeemed for every Php500 minimum single-receipt purchase of any regular-priced
items from SM Stationery. These coupons are valid until May 1, 2019.

The Donate-a-Book campaign is just one of the many efforts for The SM
Store and its employees in doing their share for the less fortunate. The
campaign has already brought joy to the students of Alabang Elementary School
and Tanza Elementary School so it is assured that your kind heart and what you
want to donate will bring smiles back to the children of Marawi.
