On
April 25, 2018, Filipino movie buffs and superhero fans from different parts of
the country have flocked to more than 800 theaters in anticipation and
excitement to indulge on watching Avengers: Infinity War. Six days later, to
the surprise of those who have or have not watched the thrilling action-packed
flick, it became the highest-grossing movie of all time in the Philippine box
office. How come?
There
is no denying the fact that the latest installment in the highly popular Marvel
Cinematic Universe is undoubtedly the most anticipated movie that has rocked
2018 and has eventually captured the hearts and minds of movie critics and
superhero fans around the world. In the Philippines, it is a bit surprising
that the so-called word of mouth marketing has taken a huge and strong toll on
the movie's unprecedented success. Not only did it quickly dominated the local
box office, Infinity War has broken records that we could never imagine that they
could be beyond our own expectations.
Marvel
Studios' Avengers: Infinity War has initially grossed Php141.6 million on its
first day of showing which is highly regarded as the biggest among every film
released in local cinemas. It also garnered the biggest Saturday earnings with
Php151.8 million and Php148.3 million on Sunday. If you add these three grosses
together with some undisclosed ones, it is intriguing to be amazed that
Infinity War would have the highest-grossing opening weekend in Philippine box office
history with Php650.1 million.
In
almost a week, Infinity War has officially grossed Php730.1 million in the Philippine
box-office surpassing the overwhelming record made by the 2017 live-action remake
of Disney's Beauty and the Beast considering that what makes these two common
is the fact that they are Disney movies. In fact, six of the highest-grossing
movies in the Philippines are from Disney including Iron Man 3, Marvel's The
Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.
Headlined
by the largest gathering of superheroes ever assembled, Avengers: Infinity War
has broken its own mold in Philippine cinemas with such highly impressive records
and strong positive reception from those who have enjoyed it especially their reactions
on what they have seen. But something in the movie's post-credits scene may probably
one that Filipino movie buffs were surprised, and that would be a shot at the
world-renouned Banaue Rice Terraces not to mention the team behind the scene
led by Indochina Productions.
If
you want to find out for yourself what has shocked, surprised and awed movie
buffs while enjoying the thrills of their favorite Marvel heroes getting into
war to stop Thanos, then go to the cinemas and see it for yourself. By the way,
the figures for Avengers: Infinity War in Philippine cinemas are officially announced
by no less than Walt Disney Pictures Philippines so you may consider these
records as legit.
