Since its inception in January 2016 as the flagship segment of the
Philippines' number one daytime show It's Showtime, the long-running local
amateur singing competition Tawag Ng Tanghalan has been a platform for aspiring
singers from different parts of the country to showcase their vocal prowess in
hopes of becoming big in the Philippine music scene. Out of thousands who have tried
in various auditions being held across the nation, only some were able to enjoy
their own success and gain their own fan base through social media. Now with its
third season already underway, Tawag Ng Tanghalan has opened a new chapter in
its history.
Prior to the upcoming TNT All-Star Showdown which will take place at
the Smart Araneta Coliseum on the 28th of July, ABS-CBN and its music
production and recording arm Star Music have officially launched a new
recording label that aims to usher in a new generation of Filipino singers
coming from the popular singing tilt and its name is TNT Records. The official
launch of the new record label is timely following the success of several TNT
finalists on TNT Versions which currently has about 120,000 subscribers on YouTube
and counting.
Among the artists who have already signed to the new record label as announced
on its official launch are TNT Season 2 Grand Champion Janine Berdin,
international singing sensations The TNT Boys (Kiefer Sanchez, Francis Concepcion,
Mackie Empuerto), online idol Sam Mangubat, Ato Arman, Steven Paysu, Reggie Tortugo, Anton Antenorcruz,
Eumee Capili, Arabelle Dela Cruz, Sheena Belarmino, Cove (JM Bales, Sofronio
Vasquez, Christian Robles), and Bukang Liwayway (Pauline Agupitan and Lalaine
Clarisse AraƱa). These are just only the beginning as more coming from previous
seasons of TNT will surely become part of TNT Records.
With these in mind, what can young and old Filipino music fans expect
from TNT Records in the coming months and in the near future? Well, for
starters, they will enjoy listening to fresh, original OPM songs as interpreted
by some of our favorite TNT alumni considering that they are written and composed
by the label's growing family of songwriters, composers, arrangers and music
producers. At least the presence of a new avenue will further boost the industry's
undying commitment to nurture and promote OPM (Original Philippine Music) reaching
every generation of Filipino music fan and this is something that we should
look forward to in the near future.
