I've watched an intriguing teaser of Fortnite Battle Royale during the
2017 Game Awards and I thought to myself that the game looks promising and is
slated to be at par with the likes of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds. A few
months later, I never thought that Epic Games' foray into the battle royal
genre would become a worldwide phenomenon and exceeded expectations for what is
now considered to be a genre to be reckoned with in the gaming world.
In a span of about half a year since it was first released on the PC,
Fortnite has more than 125 million registered players from different parts of
the globe and sparked numerous memes regarding some of its characters and their
unique moves. It has reached various game systems such as the PlayStation 4 and
the Nintendo Switch as well as mobile devices. The strength and resiliency of the
gaming world's love for Fortnite surprisingly play a role in the game's unprecedented
traction.
With such success in just a short span of time, sometimes I wonder how
Fortnite was able to change the way gamers think about the battle royals genre
considering that it is becoming fun, exciting and enjoyable for anyone to play
on any platform. Heck, I've seen younger gamers playing other games of the
similar genre such as Rules Of Survival (ROS) but I was a big curious of how
Fortnite became more popular than everything else of its kind. Perhaps it's the
charm that makes a game like Fortnite something that is fun to enjoy.
Otherwise, it is obviously due to the fact that it is free to play for everyone
to indulge.
Sadly, the Fortnite phenomenon is weak in our local shores. I guess it
is because many computer shop owners are too dumb and senseless to realize that
there is no stopping Fortnite from being a phenomenal game to be reckoned with.
On the other hand, Fortnite on PC was too intensive on the graphics and power
side that they could not dare to make it enjoyable for even younger gamers.
We'll never know for sure why Fortnite was never a big hit in the local PC gaming
market. However, if you want to try out why Fortnite was such a fast-rising
phenomenon, I recommend you to try out the Nintendo Switch version since it is
as popular as the original PC release due to the number of times it has
downloaded from the Nintendo eShop. In fact, Fortnite for the Switch is available at the eShop so you can't find a physical copy of it anywhere unless you do.
