More younger Filipinos are starting to get used to enjoy their own time
with their smartphones considering that they are becoming tools that help them
in their studies and more particularly their free time. However, despite how they
embrace their own new way of enjoying themselves, there are some children who think
that there is nothing more enjoyable in their time than reading one book or
two. Book reading has become an essentially important factor in every Filipino
child's development, and this is where SM Supermalls comes in and share the
importance of such endeavor to others.
On July 24, 2018, hundreds of young minds from various schools in
different parts of the Batangas province were gathered at the Event Center
areas of three SM malls situated in the province - SM City Batangas, SM City
Lipa and SM Center Lemery - for a book reading activity which is part of SM
Supermalls' SM Cares program which symbolizes the renouned mall brand's contributions
to Filipino communities especially the underprivileged. Those who have
participated in the activity were from St. Therese of Child Jesus Multiple Intelligence
School, Lemery Pilot Elementary School, Gov. Leviste Noble Memorial Elementary
School and Don Leon Dolor Memorial School among others.
Throughout the said activity being held in these three shopping malls, the
management of each SM mall in Batangas expressed its appreciation not only to
the participating students, but also to the various sponsors who have taken
part in such an engaging event. Along with several employees, SM City Lipa
management showed its own appreciation through a simple takeover ceremony where
hundreds of books are being given to students of selected public schools around
the city. With that in mind, I would assume that students participating in the
event were actively listening to those who read the books aloud and eventually
learning a lot from what they have listened.
